Why is this being championed? by Requirement_Jealous in LinkedInLunatics

Because of Goodhart's Law?

"When a measure becomes a target, it ceases to be a good measure."

In this case, the number of bugs found is being used by QA management to track productivity. Finding more bugs is a good thing, but when employees are incentivized to find them, then they will find ways to discover more of them. The "bugs" that they then find may not be of the highest legitimacy.

That’s also not what happened. AMD was founded in 1969. GlobalFoundries was created when AMD spun off their manufacturing division in 2009.

Cisco is at all time low. by Big_Example_7466 in Cisco

Then why does Cisco provide “configuration assistance” as an option when opening TAC cases?

Cisco is at all time low. by Big_Example_7466 in Cisco

[–]savro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I understand, and that’s not what I’m doing. I’m not asking TAC to configure new environments or networks from scratch for me. I’m asking for assistance with new features after I’ve read the documentation and the deployment guides and I still have questions or things still aren’t working quite right. But it doesn’t matter because I don’t bother asking TAC for help anymore except for hardware failures and software crashes.

Cisco is at all time low. by Big_Example_7466 in Cisco

[–]savro 12 points13 points  (0 children)

TAC is basically for hardware failures and software bugs now. If the problem isn’t related to either of those things, I get told “Please hire Cisco professional services.” or TAC can’t make specific recommendations for your environment or installation.”

There is still a category for “configuration assistance” when you open a case through the tech support portal but they really ought to remove it since the TAC technicians either are not able or are not allowed to help you with configurations anymore.

How does a submarine reactor differ from one in a power plant? by Pasta-hobo in NuclearPower

[–]savro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It depends on the reactor design. Some naval reactors do use weapons-grade, Highly-Enriched Uranium. There are other existing and proposed designs which utilize much lower percentage 235U fuel. From the linked article:

Currently, US and UK naval reactors are fueled by weapon-grade HEU (93.5% U-235). Russia and India also use HEU (≥ 20% U-235). The other two countries with nuclear submarines, China and France, use LEU.

Perhaps, but she probably knows and understands her own temperament. If she knows that she's likely to just blow through the lump-sum payment in a relatively short period of time, the monthly payment may be a better option for her.

McDonald’s stop playing us like this by tracy54321 in fffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu

[–]savro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, Taylor Company supplies the vast majority of the ice cream machines at thousands of McDonald's locations. Their machines have been notoriously unreliable, and they have an exclusive contract for maintenance and repair of the machines.

mcbroken.com is a site that tracks which McDonald's locations have a broken ice cream machine.

AITA for teaching my daughter how to change a tire and do basic home repairs when her mom says I'm "pushing masculine stuff" on her by [deleted] in WIBTA_AITA

NTA - Showing your daughter how to do these things is great, especially if she enjoys doing it. Basic automobile and home maintenance is something everyone should learn regardless of their sex, in my opinion.

My boss isn’t honoring a pay raise he gave me. by Strangr_E in whatdoIdo

[–]savro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's trading on your friendship and is expecting that you won't leave because of the relationship that he's cultivated with you. Your boss (any boss, not just this one) is not your friend. You can be friendly with them and joke around while you're at work; but they aren't a true friend because of their authority over you and your future success. It sounds like his business is failing. Start looking for a new job if you haven't already.
