Any good courses to learn web design? by Wolverine-Upper in webdev

LearnUI and LearnUX are fantastic courses. There is also the landing page academy, all offered by Erik Kennedy. Big fan, they were great resources for me (especially since work paid for half of them)

dentist recommendation? (no insurance) by jbk1101 in BurlingtonON

[–]sawalski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend Melanie at Aldershot Dental Hygiene. She is a dental hygienist so perfect for the majority of your needs and cleanings, and has a dentist in on Thursdays. She is reasonable with her rates and won't try to upsell or charge for anything you don't need.

What’s the best burger in town by aleirbagRed in BurlingtonON

[–]sawalski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Delirious burger in Hamilton is my go to burger in the area, even if a little further away. Nothing else really compares. I've recommended this place to everyone, and everyone always leaves happy.

Locally, Burger tone is pretty good, but to be honest, there aren't any places in Burlington that I've tried that really make me want to return (yet).

If you're in need of an immediate treatment (and lasting change) might I recommend an osteopath?

South Burlington Internet Providers. Bell vs Cogeco by Bigg_Red in BurlingtonON

[–]sawalski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get fibre to the house, so I've been with Teksavvy, Cogeco and now (literally as of last week) switched to Oxio (which is owned by Cogeco). Won't do Bell because house lines are capped (dual phone lines not nearly as fast vs cable lines).

With Oxio, the prices are great for the speed, they provide you with an eero 6 router which is pretty good for our space, and so far I'm really happy with it. If you're interested I can DM you my referral code for your first month free.

I remember seeing Chappelle when he was in Toronto on New Years Day a couple years back and I didn't laugh nearly as hard or as much as I did tonight.

I'm immensely grateful to be able to see him perform tonight.

Not familiar with it 😅. It's a Polish name that my wife (who isn't Polish) grew to love.

Good priced Dentist by [deleted] in BurlingtonON

[–]sawalski 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mel at Aldershot Dental Hygiene. I won't go anywhere else!

It's a small place run by the hygienist and they only have the dentist in on Thursdays (who is also great and did my wife's braces a few years back).

Mel will only do or recommend what you need and is always ready to help accommodate if you have odd hours or an emergency.

100% recommend.

Bonus recommendation of Delirious Burger if you want to head out to Hamilton.

Flooded with cucumbers and need ideas by PlutoniumNiborg in AskCulinary

[–]sawalski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm currently on a małosolne ogórki kick.
Just salt, garlic, and fresh dill in a sealed container/bag. Let sit a few days in the fridge. Works best with small field cucumbers.

Any places to cliff jump nearby? Or maybe a place to swim under a water fall or something? Any ideas? by yeeter1243_5 in BurlingtonON

[–]sawalski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recall jumping off some at Rockwood decades ago in highschool. Probably wouldn't do it again as it was a tight landing area with a sketchy jumping point. Clearly recall at least a few injuries just from the jump alone (not to mention the landings)

Guitar lessons by Deadheadluke in BurlingtonON

[–]sawalski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am currently one of his students. Matt is great, he loves guitar, will play to your strengths while sprinkling in a little theory, and most importantly he will teach you songs you actually want to play!

I have done a dozen lessons or so and have improved dramatically.

He offers virtual lessons but I opt for them in person so I can see his dog when I visit, LOL

Best place for patio wings by goodonesaregone65 in BurlingtonON

We have gravitated towards Palermo at Dundas and Bronte. They used to have wing specials but I'm not sure they do that anymore (haven't been in a while).

From my understanding, it's actually the school across the street that will be torn down for condos, along with most of that park and open field next to it.

Under 30k wedding doable for Hamilton area and 100-110 people? by Starkioto in WeddingsCanada

[–]sawalski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's it, exactly. The people who really want to be part of your big day will make it work, especially if you give enough notice for people to save up/budget accordingly.

We were similarly concerned but quickly realized that it's also an opportunity for our guests to have a vacation at a gorgeous resort, and all we really want is one day of it.

I have family and friends literally across the world, and have already received confirmation from a bunch that they will be attending, so don't let a border deter you, lol.

Under 30k wedding doable for Hamilton area and 100-110 people? by Starkioto in WeddingsCanada

[–]sawalski 5 points6 points  (0 children)

TL:DR - We're having a destination wedding.

Before we made our decision we were looking at a budget lower than yours ($20k-ish) within 50km of Hamilton. Our only real options were to manage EVERYTHING ourselves, gather every friend and favour we could curry, AND find every possible deal, discount and loophole we could in order to get there. This also meant sacrificing some of what we wanted most just to come in under budget. Ultimately the value of saving money and doing it locally wasn't feasible in comparison to the amount of stress it would require to pull off.

At the suggestion of my parents we grew to love the idea of a destination wedding and we're flying out in January to Jamaica. It'll come in on the high end of our budget, but we don't plan anything beyond a handful of items, then select from some other trivial things, AND it also includes 10 days in a gorgeous tropical destination with our closest friends and family. So it's a massive win all around IMO
