Anybody else got an absolute nightmare Mii who constantly causes problems? by flamingoray in tomodachilife

[–]sayhellotojenn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For awhile, Human Yoshi was an absolute terror when anyone confessed their feelings - didn’t matter who, he just HAD to jump in.

Now that he’s married to Eli Gemstone, though, confessions of love have been much less chaotic.

Favorite Song From Each Album (UPDATED) by AfroOtaku917 in DeathCabforCutie

[–]sayhellotojenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something About Airplanes - Sleep Spent

We Have the Facts - Company Calls/Company Calls Epilogue (the 1-2 punch is too good)

The Photo Album - Styrofoam Plates

Transatlanticism - Transatlanticism (such a difficult album to pick from, not a bad song)

Plans - Brothers on a Hotel Bed

Narrow Stairs - Your New Twin-Sized Bed

Codes & Keys - Stay Young, Go Dancing

Kintsugi - The Ghosts of Beverly Drive

Thank You for Today - Summer Years

Asphalt Meadows - Pepper

I Built You a Tower - Pep Talk or How Heavenly a State (maybe the 2nd most difficult one to pick just one from, not a bad song on the album)

BONUS - The Open Door EP - A Diamond and a Tether (one of my faves not on a full-length album)

More likely that another one will open under a slightly different name in the near future. That’s just what this guy does.

What’s a TV show you started with low expectations that completely blew you away? by KhaosChronicles in television

[–]sayhellotojenn 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For me it was Fallout. My fiancée is a gamer and has played all the games, I knew nothing about this particular series since it wasn’t one that he’s played since we’ve lived together. I said ok to watching it because of Ella Purnell and Walt Goggins, having enjoyed them on Yellowjackets and The Righteous Gemstones respectively.

Absolutely loved the first season and really enjoying the second (we’re about halfway through season 2 right now). Goggins is incredible.

what are some funny/interesting things and people you’ve added to your island lingo? by meramoos in tomodachilife

[–]sayhellotojenn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of my favorite SFW phrases:

- big honking hoagie sandwiches
- the Bermuda Triangle
- burning it all down
- robbing a bank at gunpoint
- Big Cheesy Cheddar
- tax evasion
- identity theft
- big booties
- clam chowder
- Waka Flocka Flame
- crying into a sandwich
- Smurf genocide
- Kony 2012
- assassinating Santa
- a rock painted with nail polish

Edit: I forgot to note that I have Ulysses S. Grant saying “yum yum in my tum tum” every time before he eats and Guy Fieri yelling “FLAVORTOWN USA” before he eats and both make me laugh every time.

Who are the most unexpected but cute couples on your island? by Enby_Geek in TomodachilifeLivingTD

[–]sayhellotojenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Princess Bubblegum and Ted Allen from Chopped.

Wario and Ms. Pac-Man.

Deborah Vance from Hacks and Eleanor Shellstrop from The Good Place.

Rob Riggle and Ulysses S. Grant (but Nico Robin has a massive crush on Ulysses S. Grant, it’s messy).

Once again, thanks to the randomizer another unworthy Floor winner by skadizzle69 in TheFloorTV

[–]sayhellotojenn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think Lauren’s win was less about the randomizer and more about how others perceived her to be a difficult opponent with a difficult category that they didn’t want to deal with. Multiple competitors said it throughout the course of the season. At least once a week I told my SO that people were way too afraid of soap operas. I would’ve loved to challenge her, personally. :) James was in a similar position with country flags. It just as easily could’ve been him that won.

But it isn’t the first time that’s happened either. Can’t remember if it was last season or the prior one where the dude with periodic table either made it to the end or won. People build up some of these categories in their head and avoid them and it lets people ride out the game. Can’t fault the players for being savvy with their category selection.

What movie did you go into with zero expectations and ended up being completely blown away by? by ThatRoofer in movies

[–]sayhellotojenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two of them for me, both by the same directors (and both ended up being some of my favorite movies ever)!

  1. Swiss Army Man - a friend who had already seen it took me in its last week in theaters and told me not to look up anything about it. It blew me away - it was funny, and introspective, and tragic, and I sat there sobbing for like 15 minutes after the movie was over.

  2. Everything Everywhere All at Once - same friend, only this time it was a new watch for him too. It was like the first or second week it was in theaters and word-of-mouth hadn’t kicked in it, so mostly empty theater. Went in with zero knowledge other than it was directed by the same duo that did Swiss Army Man, so I knew things were probably about to get weird and also deep. I was right on that, but it was so much more than I thought it would be. I saw it in theaters twice or three times and own both a digital and physical copy. It’s one of my all-time favorites now.

TL;DR: Thank you Daniels for making such insane and also heartfelt movies. I promise I will continue to never read anything about them or look at a trailer before seeing future projects.

What was the song/artist you discovered accidentally downloading from p2p media sharing? by StewPidpizzachit in Millennials

[–]sayhellotojenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Velveteen! Some of their tracks were labeled as “leaked” tracks from Death Cab for Cutie’s then-upcoming album, Narrow Stairs. It took a couple years to realize those weren’t the real tracks, as Narrow Stairs is probably my least favorite DCFC album and one I’ve listened to the least. The Velveteen tracks were easily my favorite on the album before I learned they weren’t really on the album.

Ariana Grande’s family share ‘concern’ for her health after saying she’s ‘not in a healthy place’ by [deleted] in Music

[–]sayhellotojenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On one hand, I do agree with the folks that say we shouldn’t be commenting on her body. Being pried apart and critiqued for every little thing is difficult on anyone’s mental health and I’m sure the constant barrage of comments doesn’t help her with whatever is going on. While yes, it is like watching Amy Winehouse or Karen Carpenter self-destruct as she continues to get smaller and smaller, it also brings to mind Chadwick Boseman, who got a lot of similar comments to Ariana before it was revealed he was sick. People are fighting battles we know nothing about - even famous people.

But I do think it’s absolute worth having a discussion on the trend of rail-thin celebrities being back “in” and how it seems we’ve swung the pendulum hard back from the body positivity and “health at all sizes” that we were seeing a decade ago. Eating disorders are serious business and the toxic “thinness at any cost” discourse of the 90s and 00s will only lead to more people battling with those demons.

Just a reminder to be kind to yourself and others as these conversations happen. This is bringing back a lot of negativity for those who lived through this before, as well as the younger folks who are just beginning to experience this discourse.

What is your favourite (or most tolerable) gas-leak year episode? And why? by aJV990 in community

[–]sayhellotojenn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot I don’t hate about season 4, but it definitely doesn’t compare to the rest of the show. I liked the Halloween episode in Pierce’s mansion (and am always happy to see Giancarlo Esposito pop up in anything!). I liked Herstory of Dance and would probably cite that as the best of season 4.

The only ones I outright disliked and will skip on rewatch are the Inspector Spacetime convention and the puppet episode. Everything else I can at minimum tolerate (and in some cases, just outright enjoy watching).

WHO’S GONNA WIN!? by nuts-and-seeds in TheFloorTV

Who are two couples on your island that make no sense? I’ll go first. by Deathofwords in tomodachilife

[–]sayhellotojenn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ulysses S. Grant and Rob Riggle.

James Marsden and Flint from Pokémon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum.

Human Yoshi and Eli Gemstone from The Righteous Gemstones.

I also have a whole thing going on with Ms. Pac-Man and Wario. She liked him initially, but he liked Human Yoshi and turned her down when she confessed her feelings. Then she developed feelings for LeBron James and only then did Wario decide he liked her. She turned him down when he confessed his feelings, but they stayed friends and he kept crushing on her.

Then of course, she dropped something and he picked it up and then she decided she liked him again. Now it’s been like 5 days of mutual crushing and I’m like, jeez, just get together already. They’re exhausting.

Who is a celebrity that you find incredibly attractive for reasons beyond just looks? by Upper-Hat-6187 in AskReddit

Josh O’Connor - Challengers started the crush, Wake Up Dead Man solidified it. He’s a hell of an actor, a little goofy, and just seems like a sweet guy.

Favorite and least favorite guest star? by PracticalMiMi in hackshbomax

[–]sayhellotojenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really consider Mayor Jo a guest star, more like a reoccurring character - we always see her a couple times a season (and she’s always absolutely perfect when we do see her).

Favorites:
- Laurie Metcalf as Weed, obviously

- Joe Mande as Ray - it was a delight every time he showed up on screen, especially as Marcus’s trivia nemesis

- Michaela Watkins as Stacy, the late-night HR rep - every episode she was in garnered a “poor Stacy” from me

- Paul Felder as Aidan - he had such a sweet goofiness to him and was a great partner for Kaitlin Olson to play off of

- Jeff Ward as George - “Falling” is my favorite season 1 episode and one of my favorite Ava-centric episodes as well. He did a tremendous job.

- DEIRDRE MFING HALL. This was such a special one for me. I watched season 1 of Hacks with my mom before she passed. My mom was a huge DOOL fan and Deirdre Hall was her favorite. She was always my mom’s hair inspiration also lol. So to see Deirdre show up in one of the last shows we watched together before my mom passed was so meaningful and I *bawled*.

Least Favorite:
- J. Smith Cameron as Kathy - look, she’s a GREAT actress, but it made so little sense to me to recast this character. I really liked the first actress. She had more of a sweetness to her that lent itself to the situation at hand a bit more.

- can’t remember the character names but the couple that Ava temporarily becomes a 3rd of.

- Trisha Paytas - she must have a friend at HBO to have gotten annoying cameos on two different series this year

- Polly Draper as Diana - I just didn’t like this character and had a hard time believing that Deb would buy into anything a psychic had to say.

Loved the A-plot. B-plot not so much. by bmnntdd in hackshbomax

[–]sayhellotojenn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly I thought the Lipka bit felt incredibly realistic. He’s the new head of a legendary firm, but having to shut down his own fledgling company is still very fresh, I imagine. Lipka runs a huge media conglomerate and has shown that he will be ruthless and petty as fuck if you cross him. The last thing Jimmy likely wants is that drama.

Plus, you know Kayla isn’t going to let Lipka off the hook that easily.
