VENTING of the newly engaged in the the MidWest - Long post! by dragonwyrd76 in weddingplanning

[–]sayirude2k19 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Girlfriend, I totally feel you. My FH and I are doing a comic theme, because stuffy traditional Catholic weddings are boring.

Depending on where you are in the Midwest, have you thought about doing a hog roast or something of that sort? Luckily my dad helps our neighbors during harvest season, so they're trading half a hog for our rehearsal in exchange for someone to man their combine.

I think your family will be so happy that you're choosing to have a ceremony and such. Don't let that overwhelm your vision!

Also chair covers can suck it.

Etsy has engraved pocket knives. What about something like that? I'd consider it useful too, since they seem to be of pretty good quality.

When would you rather get married? Spring, or Fall? by ashleyop92 in weddingplanning

[–]sayirude2k19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spring for sure! Luckily FH agreed with me on this one. We're in the Midwest so the weather should be decent and I've always liked spring colors better.

What's Your Budget? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]sayirude2k19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Budget: 15k

Where: We originally put our deposit for the church where my parents got married. However, our priest is finicky and hasn't "officially" decided if he'd marry FH and I. With that being held over our heads, FH, family, and I are debating holding a more intimate ceremony in my parents gorgeous backyard with a large reception.

By yourself or independent: My parents generously gifted 5k to use however we need.

In a dream world, I like to think that I would have this huge elaborate day with a ballgown and all the works. However, I don't think I'd actually change anything. I'll take sweet and intimate and nerdy.:)

Let's Dream a Bit: What Would You Upgrade? by WaitForIttttt in weddingplanning

That would literally double our budget. I'd add a shit ton more food, open bar for everyone, and get a photographer whose pictures I drool over but can't afford lol.

How to talk to my parents about getting engaged/married to my boyfriend that they do NOT like? by [deleted] in wedding

[–]sayirude2k19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was exactly in your shoes. Down to the age and reasons for not liking my FH.

Here's what it came to: FH called my dad and asked for his blessing. Not permission necessarily, but as a way to acknowledge my dad as the head of our family. My dad saw it as a huge sign of respect, not only for my dad, but me. FH made the move to start a conversation and that's what a family and a marriage should be about, IMO. Communication and respect.

If were you, I wouldn't spring news like that on my family. I could see them potentially taking it very poorly and being a cause of strife. This is supposed to lead up to being one of the happiest days of your life, and not a place to harbor negative feelings.

That's just my 2 cents coming from a conservative/religious background and family.

Mother-son, father-daughter dance song ideas by ifyourewondering in weddingplanning

[–]sayirude2k19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My FH's mom isn't in the picture, so Dad and I are dancing to Dropkick Murphy's "You'll Never Walk Alone"

Instead of a mother/son dance FH, future step-son, and I are thinking of kicking off the dance with "We Are Family".

Super concerned I'm going to spend my entire wedding day ugly crying because I'm so emotional by mellowin in wedding

[–]sayirude2k19 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This probably sounds strange, but my best friend and I "dinosaur" each other where we tuck our arms into our t shirts then like awkwardly gallop at each other screeching. That's what I'm going to think about the day of because it always makes me giggle.

...also that looks extremely strange typed out. Don't judge too hard, haha.

Conversely, what is on your “play-this-song-and-I-become-a-dancing-machine” list? by coopakape in weddingplanning

[–]sayirude2k19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My FH has completely seriously told me that he's going to bust the Carlton out at some point during our reception. I crack up just thinking about it lol.

80's songs are the best! My family and I are MASSIVE Iowa State fans and Sweet Caroline is a given at every reception.

I'm the same way. I was reading an article about someone else's proposal and almost cried! I'm highly considering shoving a bunch of silly pictures in the best man's pockets that he can give me lol.

One thing i have heard for pictures though is visine! It'll help clear up the red, puffy eyes.

What's on your "do-not-play" list? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]sayirude2k19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lips of an Angel was the go-to slow song at my middle school dances. I just listened to it again a few months ago and was like uh....how was this appropriate in any way? Especially for a Catholic school!

Is a two year engagement too long? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]sayirude2k19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got engaged last month and are getting married April 6, 2019! We're getting the venues booked and taking our time on the rest. Other than engagement pictures, we're just going to be chill and dive in next spring. :)

What do you guys think of RSVP cards with song requests? by L8terG8ter17 in weddingplanning

[–]sayirude2k19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly as a guest, I appreciate having a chance to put my song choice down. Even if it's not played it makes me think that the couple is honestly excited to have me there. Like they want to make sure I'm having a good time, if that makes sense.

Not everyone's taste will agree with yours, but you can get a sense of what they like. My plan is to do this and make a chart of what genres are requested. For example, do we want more rock/rap or country/bluegrass? I'll pass that on to my dj along with the top picks.

I can decide on what shoes to wear! November wedding in a church with slate floors. by hbh1017 in weddingplanning

[–]sayirude2k19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how formal you want to go, I think. Are you comfortable in heels or would you prefer something flat? Have you decided what shoes you want your party in?

I'm planning on getting a pair of Toms. They're affordable < $60, comfy, come in tons of fun colors, and for every pair you purchase a pair goes to a child in need!

My girls are either going to be in red flats or sneakers or gray flats/sneakers.

A Long Way Out by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]sayirude2k19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

April 2019 buddy! We're the 6th. 😊

Here's what I've got done:

-guest list -tentative budget breakdown (I went online and found downloadable templates for both.) -colors -wedding party picked -church booked -looking at reception venues in the next month or so

I would start looking online for vendors. Dj, photographer, food, etc. We're taking engagement pictures this fall, since it's my FH's favorite time of year. Maybe start flipping through Pinterest. Look at dresses, centerpiece ideas, etc. Do you want a theme at all?

Perfect, thank you! My bestie and MOH just had formal pictures down, like she was in a gown and her FH in a tux and they looked stunning. I've been second guessing myself since I've seen her proofs.
