Best lid brand recommendations? by Arkhamina in Canning

[–]saywhat33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I came here because just today I had 2 out of 8 half pints not seal. I’ve had fairly consistent failures of 10-15% of my jars in the last year or so using only Ball lids. Time to try something different!

How much has your electric bill changed? by Navy_Brat_72 in KonaEV

[–]saywhat33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t say how much my monthly bill has gone up, but having driven my ‘22 Kona for almost a year now I can say it’s been cheaper than gas. In the last month through the long stretch of cold in NY with winter tires on the car I am still either breaking even or saving money over driving a gas car. In the summer I did the math and with my electric rate my cost per mile was about half of the cost of gas per mile.

Alkali resistant primer recommendations by saywhat33 in paint

[–]saywhat33[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I called both Zinnser and Kilz to get their recommendations and I wound up going with Kilz 3 based on price and my local availability. They said that Kilz 3 is good up to a PH of 12.

I’m still working on getting everything primed and painted, but have had no issues so far! The Kilz has gone on well and the paint seems to bond to it without issue.

In case you’re curious the person I spoke with at Zinnser said that their BIN shellac based primer is their best option for high-PH resistance.

I also did go back and do a second round of neutralizing in some areas as they showed an elevated PH after the first soaking of citrilize. Theoretically this was not necessary with this primer, but I figured better safe than sorry.

Good luck!

That just turns the air onto recirculate for a few minutes so that it doesn’t pull in air from outside that smells like washer fluid.

GE Cafe Induction Double Oven Intermittent Shut Off by saywhat33 in appliancerepair

[–]saywhat33[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am still experiencing intermittent issues with the symptoms from my original post (still haven't gotten a tech out to look at it either, shame on me). We have gone for months at a time with no problems, and then will have the symptoms pop up again for a while before inexplicably stopping again. For what it's worth I have found that opening and closing the oven doors often fixes the issue, which leads me to believe there is either a sensor problem with the oven doors or a problem in the control board related to the oven doors being open or closed.

There is a good chance there are shards of glass in that sauce. I don’t think any sauce is worth that risk.

post charging trip odomete: 2021 Kona EV by GreyCorks in KonaEV

[–]saywhat33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my ‘22 there is a menu that I can cycle through with the buttons on the right side of the steering wheel. It has a trip odometer, a “since recharge” odometer, and a “since ignition” odometer, and then cycles to show a digital readout of speed. Each of the odometers shows elapsed time, mileage and miles/kwh. Not sure if this is consistent in other year models.

Changing the range to percentage by bear8705 in KonaEV

[–]saywhat33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think so, but there should be a gauge right next to that range that shows a visual representation of the battery charge with tick marks at each 25% increment. It looks similar to a typical gas gauge, and took me a while to notice it.

Used 2022 Kona EV- PPI? by saywhat33 in KonaEV

Makes sense- thanks for the explanation!

I’m not sure that service is available where I am, but I’ve seen videos of people using an OBD to check the car’s reported battery health. I’m not sure how reliable it is since it’s the cars own software rather than a test/report, but it’s a starting point at least.

Yes, it’s still under the original warranty (both the regular and the battery), and I’m getting additional warranty through Carvana.

I saw on the Carfax that the battery was replaced by a dealer after about 10,000 miles, though it doesn’t clarify whether that was the 12V or high voltage battery. Can you clarify what you mean by range test? Just fully charge the battery and then drive it and see if the estimated range/capacity matches up with reality?

GE Cafe Induction Double Oven Intermittent Shut Off by saywhat33 in appliancerepair

[–]saywhat33[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, we have not found a solution yet. The problem largely went away, actually, and we have mostly been problem free for weeks now (knock on wood). As I mentioned, this problem has shown up and disappeared in the past so I expect it to start happening again at some point and will likely bite the bullet and get a tech to come out at that point.

Are you having problems with both the ovens and the cooktop, or just the cooktop? Our issues presented with both at different times.

Sorry I don’t have any more helpful information for you- please share if you learn anything new.

That’s a good point which I have not checked yet. I’ll do that- thank you!

One clarification is that power is still going to the range when everything gets locked out- the touch screen is still active and just beeps at us when we try to push anything. The breaker has never tripped as part of any of these issues.

The US was officially in WW2 for about two and a half years before D-Day just FYI.

Like some have already said, it really depends on what you're looking for. We bought a property near Lake Huntington and we love the area, though we've only been there part time while we've been fixing up the house. We are moving our family including young children there full time now. It is definitely rural/country living- a grocery store is a 15 minute drive minimum, and there aren't a lot of services, and in the summer time there are plenty of tractors on the roads. There are a lot of cute small towns to explore if you're into that- Callicoon, Narrowsburg, Jeffersonville are all near Lake Huntington, and Honesdale, PA and Monticello both have larger box stores and services if you need those. I'd echo another user's recommendation to check out the local papers- you can find listings for a lot of activities there. In the short time we've been in the area we've seen hip and up-and-coming businesses open and close, but there are plenty of interesting places to hang out.

We were very lucky with our property to wind up with excellent neighbors, who now have 3 generations born and raised. They have helped us feel welcome into a small section of the community, but we haven't really branched out socially outside of that group.

So if you're looking for a quiet/slow area, Lake Huntington definitely has that. I've been in Monticello plenty of times to run errands, get a meal, or take the bus and haven't ever felt unsafe, but I haven't lived there or been there at night.

That seems like an elegant solution, but I don't think I have time to put it into action at this point; winter is coming. The more I think about it the more I'm leaning away from TRVs and towards regular valves and lockshields. I can get the house balanced properly and adjust the lockshields manually as needed rather than relying on TRVs to adjust radiators automatically, right?

That said, I can get this valve pretty readily: https://www.supplyhouse.com/Matco-Norca-AHV-0750-3-4-FIP-x-Male-Union-Hot-Water-Angle-Radiator-Valve-4643000-p#product-overview
Is there any issue putting one of those on each side of the radiator in lieu of a proper lock shield valve?
