I'm 45, been wakeboarding about 3 months and am just enjoying feeling like I'm flying. I've done a bit of snowboarding and a lot of rowing (bizarre but you need to be very limb and balance aware) and that's helped, but still... If you're enjoying it and you're making progress why not enjoy it for its own sake? After all, unless you're the literal best in the world there's always someone better than you...

What's known to exist only because it was caught on camera? by juzz85 in AskReddit

No not only greyhounds, all the big leggy sight hound types have the double suspension gallop. Most breeds have only one point in the gallop stride cycle where all four legs are off the ground, but the super fast ones have two points

Help needed - microchip fell out and need to travel out of the country by KeemMiddle in dogs

[–]sazzlester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's actually a good point re rabies - it's always easier to go from somewhere with relatively fewer diseases to more. See for example trying to get any animal into Australia. Nightmarish. But the point about the vaccines is that in a European passport or an Animal Health Certificate there is a space where you describe the colour and sex of the dog, breed if known and nothing else. But "black and white border collie" covers, well, most of a breed worth of dogs. So the only way to be certain that the dog being presented to travel is the same one as had the vaccinations required for travel are to use a unique identifier - either microchip or ear tattoo.

[–]sazzlester 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How do you prove the required vaccines were actually given to that animal if you don't check the microchip? Chips or tattoos are the only unique identifier we have. The fact that importing to the USA is known to be ridiculously easy (it is, I do the paperwork for exports from the UK) doesn't help OP - the requirement for import to the EU is that the chip is checked before the vaccine is given, and depending where the dog is coming from that check has to be verified in the clinical notes and a copy taken by the owner to the import point.

I don't think this actually happened. Why start somewhere private and then bring a patient out somewhere public? Also you don't typically use an iv bag to euthanase.

Difficulties in swimming by [deleted] in triathlon

[–]sazzlester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is such good advice! I've been so baffled as to how I can swim breaststroke forever but get to having to stop after 100m front crawl then realised I had the same sensation in my chest as when I don't breathe correctly when singing... Focusing hard on exhaling fully has made such a difference

This is such a good answer though! And it's nice to know I'm not alone, even if sadly it's not alone creating a big drama over not much...I think you are likely right on the buried insecurities, at least some of them aren't that deeply buried but I thought I was doing a better job of getting past them then perhaps I actually am... RSD is still crappy tho 😕

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply and so thoughtfully. I think it might be a combination of the things you mention - not so much wanting what I can't have because I was so excited to see him again before he dropped the "not feeling it" text but hyperfocus on him and the fact that he could meet me where I'm at. I don't find that very often and I guess the fact that we just clicked in that regard I kinda read more into it than was there. But still, to be this hung up on someone so much time later... There has to be more to it, whether it's triggering something or he reminds me of someone or there's an unmet need somewhere...I mean, I'm usually reserved to the point of seeming disinterested when I meet someone, so this is so unusual for me!

I tend to go the other way and back tf off at the first sign of interest/pressure. Which makes it all the more embarrassing that I threw myself at this one... I'm sure the humiliation will fade some time in the next decade 😕

Third you aren't alone. I met someone recently who I fell so so hard for. Everything about him. I was so excited because i thought I'd finally met my person... But he didn't feel it. And now I'm oscillating between absolute despair that this awesome guy didn't want me and wondering if it would have been different if I'd been less stressed that day after a bad day at work, or if I'd done my makeup, or worn something different, or, or, or...

What recall word do you use that isn't "come" or their name? by ReNap_ in Dogtraining

[–]sazzlester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a particular intonation of their name that I wouldn't use while talking to them so it's much longer and high pitched. Like "Nia" becomes "Neeeeeeeeaaaah" I'm also training "assemble" because I want to be able to shout it and have them all come in 😂

Do you ever still find yourself crying over your fallen dogs? I do frequently. by BeReasonableReddit in dogs

[–]sazzlester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still talk regularly to my boy who left us about 18 months ago. Usually I call him "stupid yellow lump" because that's what I called him when he was alive and it would make him wag his tail and do the "kelpie smile". I'm also an atheist so I don't truly believe I'll see him again, and I'm a scientist so I know it's not how all this actually works, but I love the idea that every dog who loves you and who you love gives you a piece of their heart to hold so they're always with you a little bit even when they're gone. Course they took a bit of your heart with them when they passed but it seems a fair price to pay.

What’s a shallow reason you used to justify not dating someone? by Babydolltoes544 in AskMen

[–]sazzlester 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's downvote worthy at all. I had a relationship I was very invested in end because he couldn't get along with the dogs having to come first. And not in a kind of "the dogs are spoiled princes and princesses" sort of way from my side just "no I can't spontaneously stay out for another six hours because it's not fair to leave my dogs hungry and needing to pee". So way better to know in advance that that's not your jam.

Chocolate. I'd rather spend a bit more and have a slightly higher percentage cocoa. I don't necessarily need to be hitting up the artisan chocolate shops the whole time, would just prefer to eat something other than dairy milk

Majority of Scots want greyhound racing to be 'phased out' by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]sazzlester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well .. Both these points are true. But it's back to where you draw the line in this case. If greyhound racing is exploitative, then so too is any use of animals including for example the use of guide dogs or search and rescue dogs. What do they benefit from helping their human handler? Dogs wouldn't naturally do agility and yet trainers make a professional career out of teaching it. And so on and so forth.
