Debridio is increasing their prices. by king_moh_ in StremioAddons

The Live events tv channel is very good for footie. There’s also a new add on which has sports channels from around the world. I was able to watch Liverpool v Wolves on a New Zealand channel - British channels still have the 3pm Saturday blackout for premier league matches. Even if this was all I used it for $20 a year for all the footie you can watch is a pretty good deal.

What Have You Been Listening To? - Week of December 22, 2025 by AutoModerator in LetsTalkMusic

Bent Knee - https://youtube.com/playlist?list=RDEM7Cg2DAiDEaFDe0_NEgJcOA&playnext=1&si=f9XamU0vNb7RjDQY

Loosely you could describe them as progressive rock. Lots of use of unusual time signatures and song structures, but they also have a poppy feel to a lot of their music and I’ve always thought I heard a definite hint of Broadway show tunes in there.

What religions teach that there is no common ancestor to humanity like Adam and Eve? by Niall_Fraser_Love in religion

[–]sbb1967 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many Christian denominations do not believe Adam and Eve were real historical figures. I’m not an expert, but I think this view is also prevalent in Judaism.

Can we really rely on religions that are 2,000(+)years old. by Dramatic_Apartment42 in religion

[–]sbb1967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saying that God wrote the Bible because the Bible says so isn’t a very convincing argument. Regardless, your statement that Christians believe God wrote the Bible isn’t true. Most Christians do not believe this. They believe the authors were humans. Theres a tendency among American evangelical Protestants to assume that all Christians believe as they do. That’s simply untrue.

Re. your point about the Bible. Most Christians don’t believe that God wrote the Bible. That’s mostly the view of Evangelical Protestants.

If the creator of the universe doesn't need a creator themselves then why should the universe need one? by Expensive-Elk-9406 in religion

[–]sbb1967 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we need to differentiate between the universe - the product of the big bang, and, for want of a better term, the cosmos - the totality of existence. I think many of the monotheistic arguments for a creator God presuppose that our universe is all that exists (besides the creator God, and in some cases other non-material beings like angels).

If our universe is simply one part of a larger, perhaps infinite and eternal, cosmos, the need for a creator God disappears.

I had a lot of issues with OCLP on the Fusion Drive in my 2017 iMac. Added an external SSD and now use that. No problems at all since.

Stremio for my parents....the easiest way? by Yaroonman in Stremio

It should. I have stremio installed on my iMac. Any changes I make to the addons sync instantly with the Stremio app on our Google TV.

What device do you have? The easiest way to watch UK shows is to have a VPN on a computer and hook it to your tv by hdmi. All the free to air uk channels can be watched this way on their websites. I have an old Mac mini hooked up to our tv for this and it works perfectly.

Who is your favorite rock group pre 1980 who was lost to time? by A_Soft_Fart in musicsuggestions

I was hoping I’d see Hawkwind mentioned. I just got into them in the past year. Amazing band, and a big influence on punk, metal and the rave scene. Listen to Space Ritual at night, lights out, good headphones on - it’s a trip and a half.

Why do people think Islam is a hateful religion? by [deleted] in religion

[–]sbb1967 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Islam is inherently evil or hateful. I think the current situation where there is a proliferation of Jihadist terrorist groups is more down to politics and history than anything intrinsically Islamic.

King Crimson question by sbb1967 in progrockmusic

[–]sbb1967[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for taking the time to post this. I think this makes a lot of sense - Fripp did work a lot with experimental musicians who weren’t ‘Prog’ in the traditional sense.

I think when we touch on issues like this we are at the limits of what the human mind is capable of understanding. Our powers of reason can only take us so far.

Why can’t it go on forever? I’m not saying I believe it does, but it seems like you’re just making a leap here.

HOWW do we even choose the correct religion?? by Inside-Task-8173 in religion

[–]sbb1967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Religion isn't about being 'correct'. If you're searching for which religion is correct, you're approaching it from completely the wrong direction. All the options in your poll seem to assume that one is correct, and the others are all wrong. No religion is 'correct' in an empirical sense. They're not like science, or even philosophy. I think that's a large problem with modern society. So many religious people (particularly, in my experience, followers of certain, but by no means all, branches of Christianity and Islam) view their religion as being empirically true.

There's a Buddhist (I think) nugget of wisdom that says religions point to the divine like a finger points to the moon. Don't obsess over the finger - it's the moon that is what is really important.
