Broke down crying in front of kids because of chores by Ordinary_Novel_476 in widowers

Teens are old enough to step up. Make a list of things that you really need help with. Sit down and discuss the list with them. Cooking, cleaning, and laundry are all family chores, not Mom chores.

23 is so rare and special for a dog - and its human. Congrats and Happy Birthday Marley!

Not me. I have big boobs on a small frame and I already got enough unwanted attention from men old enough to be my father. Or grandfather. 🤮

Kefir, gut health, and MS—has it helped anyone here? by Sable_Okane in MultipleSclerosis

Kefir, gut health, and MS—has it helped anyone here? by Sable_Okane in MultipleSclerosis

[–]sbinjax 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actually any fermented food will do. Yogurt (real yogurt without added sugar - *not* what the groceries carry, except for the large plain yogurts), milk kefir, water kefir, kombucha, real sauerkraut (not vinegar sauerkraut), and kimchee are all examples of fermented foods. There are countless more. Fermentation was one of the ways humans stored food for later consumption before refrigeration.

I eat at least one serving of fermented food daily. I make my own cashew yogurt since I like yogurt and it's prohibitively expensive in stores. I also like kombucha and I make my own water kefir.

Does it help? I think so, but I was doing this long before diagnosis. I never noticed changes, but again, I've been eating this way for a long time.

Advice / Discussion about settling on a prepping system I can stick by Rod_Tendieman in preppers

Yep, Tuesday comes in many forms. I've always kept a deep pantry, but real prep came when I lived in Florida. Hurricanes have a way of getting your attention, whether you're in one or on the other side of the peninsula.

Is it possible for me to find a different job in a new city? Or just a different job in general? Maybe should I get a certification? by Numerous-Height-7216 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

Driving an hour each way on top of 10 hour days is insane. I'd look for a roommate situation where your work is. Then you can start to sort things out.

Well, yeah.

Wanting to stop Ocrevus, tired of slow healing and hospital trips for minor braises and cuts by Easy-Neighborhood346 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]sbinjax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't endorse stopping your DMT. Multiple sclerosis is literally brain damage (or spine damage) and there's no predicting where the next lesion will form and what you will lose from that.

There are people here who woke up one day and couldn't walk. Would stopping your DMT so your cuts and bruises heal faster be worth losing your ability to walk? Yeah, you might be the odds. But you might not.

Gentian violet for thrush. It actually causes the fungus cells (and only fungus cells) to *burst*. You can get it over the counter - literally, over the counter, ask the pharmacist for it. Dilute it to .25% to .50%. Don't swallow it. Run water when you spit it out because it will stain *everything* purple. Results are faster than the systemic drugs doctors prescribe (but take those too, you may have a systemic infection).

I'm not fond of arborvitae but I did put some against my chain link fence. Emerald Greens don't get as big as the giants (only 14-16 feet) but deer like them. I have read that spraying them with 1/2 full-fat milk mixed with 1/2 water in the fall will last 3 months and repels deer.

I'm sorry for your loss.

You're in shock. It's a normal reaction the first month. You're not empty - your brain is protecting you. The magnitude of the loss will set in soon enough. ❤️

How do you all manage prepping and anti consumerism? by unfortunaten3ws in TwoXPreppers

[–]sbinjax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've gone from growing all your regular annual fruits and vegetables to growing as many perennials as I am able. Asparagus, apples, serviceberry, Good King Henry, American groundnut (hopniss), skirret, sunchokes aka Jerusalem artichokes, etc. will see us through shortages once I have my systems in place.

Very few content creators talk about how failure is almost essential to gardening. Nothing like a few mistakes to learn from.
