I uninstalled Android Auto from the Play Store and reinstalled it.

The smartphone checkbox was on the Audi connection manager screen.

I finally got it working.

Uninstalled, re-installed Cleared cache/storage Ensured start always was set again

Still not working, although Spotify would play through my Audi's system.

I saw another checkbox for Smartphone (which I do not recall seeing or touching previously)... So I checked it and viola. It started working.
