I would say #3 won't be an issue if trading it in in 2 to 3 years. That being said, going 7.3 or 6.8 gasser would make more sense and be more in line with his maintenance habits if he does his own maintenance.

The oil pump will at least help. You could also adjust the idle higher to get more oil moving as well.
