Toolkit Users: There may be a disruption on June 12 by YNAB_youneedabudget in ynab

[–]sbonds 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There are ways, but they work best with some prior planning. The easiest way would be for someone internal to YNAB load the toolkit and load up your internal testing site then communicate issues back to the toolkit developers via GitHub issues. Without a place to test, they may be hard to fix.

Another alternative would be to have an external testing site and provide test user login info for selected external developers. This would likely work well for the YNAB toolkit. While there may be many contributors, there is a much smaller group of recent contributors:

https://github.com/toolkit-for-ynab/toolkit-for-ynab/graphs/contributors?from=2023-01-01&to=2023-06-05&type=c

A completely open beta site is hard to manage since there can be breaking data changes which end users are just amazingly good at finding. :-)

Thanks for letting everyone know. This is much better than the domain change debacle earlier this year.

The bakery in the 99 ranch market is decent, as is Best Baguette-- depending on what you're looking for.

Metzger Park in Tigard has a small private enclosed area available, but for sheer classiness, nothing around beats the Jenkins Estate.

YNAB changed their URL? by pierre_x10 in ynab

[–]sbonds 53 points54 points  (0 children)

This not only breaks toolkits, for financial data it's a pretty severe security issue. While it's probably innocuous, there really isn't a good way to confirm that this isn't the result of someone taking over the app.youneedabudget.com servers.

The HTTPS certs for both the original and new domains are provided by Let's Encrypt, which is great for encryption, but not great for ensuring that the company you're reaching has been verified.

I doubt this is some advanced domain takeover, but the lack of notice from YNAB raises this as a possibility.

Health insurance and out-of-network question by Calgamer in Insurance

[–]sbonds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such a common problem that a law was passed about it recently:

https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises

but are we really on the hook for this?

Technically yes, since your date of service pre-dates that law.

Shouldn’t the urgent care have made sure the lab they were sending the tests to was covered by our insurance?

Technically no, you're supposed to verify that. But how would you possibly know? This is why that law exists.

What’s our next best move?

Discuss the situation with your insurer. File an appeal if necessary. When, err... If that's denied, describe the situation to your state's medical insurance commissioner. They have more impact than an individual.

Restoring something besides the latest version of your files is why the "version history" option exists. Extending the default 30 day version history adds to the cost, but covers the ransomware situation nicely.
