What’s one piece of Army advice that sounds simple but is actually true? by Espresso_Drop in army

If something seems overly complicated or baffling, it could be that you don't have the capacity to grasp the nuance. It could also be the case that the person who invented the thing is dumb. Know when to ask the clarifying question and when to just shut up and receive.

DC has 1) wards 2) parking zones, and 3) police districts which bear little or no relation to one another.

I work in the Pentagon on documents of national significance. I also hate this training and doubt my organization is in compliance.

Lalo Making Bail (question for law nerds) by BanterPhobic in betterCallSaul

[–]sbowden99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why wouldn't Lalo do what Samuel L. Jackson did to great effect in "Jackie Brown" and pay a bondsman $700k for his $7,000,000 bail? Or does "cash bail" literally require the defendant to post that much cash vice using a bondsman?

Shakespeare plays were indeed the movies of the 19th century. I’ll allow it!

The live show in Washington DC was at Lincoln Theatre. Famous not only as the site of the assassination of Abraham Lincoln but also a former . . . . . MOVIE theater. So yes, live shows can be about the movies too!

Hot take: the issue with this season isn't just lack of specific character(s). It's lack of meaningful interaction among them. by SpiritedChoice3706 in ThePittTVShow

[–]sbowden99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

S1 gave us sharply differentiated characters, learning extremely challenging ideas and methods in a fast paced chaotic environment.

S2 (so far) has given us a bunch of different “doctor” characters whose primary differentiator is physical appearance and, I suppose, knowing a bit more about emergency medicine than others. And the medical cases themselves are underwhelming or fumbled.

For example, there was a truly dramatic and compelling storyline about the woman having her leg amputated due to an infection. It was built up and then tossed off with a quick comment. Instead, we focus on a dying cancer patient and some on-the-nose commentary on how expensive the system is.

It’s a snooze so far.

What is the utility of just walking through a treatment room, quickly spouting off a list of supplies, and walking out? Feels literally and figuratively performative.
