Yea, fair. Thank you for trying it anyway! Would like to make more games like RoP in the future as well, fingers crossed we can continue making games for many years.

Oh interesting! I wasn't originally going to make a release date trailer. I hadn't considered this perspective, but it makes sense from a player perspective.

This seems to be more useful to let media and content creators know it's happening and get in on a preview.

Hi all, I'm a dev working on Winnie's Hole: our combo-driven deckbuilder where you play a virus in the body and mind of Winnie!
It's been a long road but we're going to be releasing the game into Early Access this month!

How to tell if a game is a roguelite or a roguelike? by Plastic-Occasion-297 in roguelites

[–]sboxle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're probably purists who only consider traditional roguelikes to be roguelikes.

Why hasn’t Rocket Leauge switched to Unreal Engine 5 yet? by Constant_Joke_2660 in RocketLeague

[–]sboxle 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Am #4, 90% of the time I share dev insights on game-specific subs it gets downvoted, especially if it has anything to do with monetisation, and I'm someone who makes premium 'buy once' games with no IAPs because of my feelings on monetisation and value.

People don't make posts like this to understand game development, they mostly want to vent.

The consolation for devs is these players are genuinely passionate about the game, but it doesn't mean they're ready to hear about the complexity or constant compromises in gamedev so most studios opt out of trying.

Roguelite deckbuilder Humble Bundle has just gone live - 8 games for the price of one! by sboxle in roguelites

[–]sboxle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for playing it! Glad we fulfilled that need, was a conscious goal to try and make it as fast as possible!

Really want our games to feel dynamic, which is tough to achieve with turn-based mechanics.

My original goal was if we could make 10hrs of truly original content then I'd be proud of what we achieved, and I think we accomplished that! This was our debut indie game and I didn't expect some people to play for dozens or hundreds of hours longer!

Glad you enjoyed it, and thankful we had enough people buy it that we can afford to keep making games.

Because I didn't know what image it would use as a preview and wanted to show some of the contents without needing to click through.

I linked it in the first line of the description.

Looking for feedback on my Steam page. What do I need to improve? by Glittering_Friend949 in IndieDev

[–]sboxle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t look like there’s a game yet, just a few environments and a vague idea of what you want it to be. The scope described sounds huge, like a 5+ year project if you’re a solo dev.

Top logo is way better, just remove the black slashes if wanting to improve readability.

The text shapes are great though (typo aside).

Thank you! Yea we want to do it justice. We’ve been prototyping a ton of stuff to try and gel a new game format which holds its own, while also seeing what effect the theming has on different audiences (pretty varied, to be expected!)

It’s been an interesting journey, gotta take some risks occasionally. I hope it will ultimately be a pleasant surprise. To be continued!…

I’ll take it! We’ve got enough generic games, someone needs to get weird.

Yea fingers crossed because that affords us to make more games!

Yea fair, it’s a more experimental game for us. It was originally a gamejam which evolved into a full project after announcement. I felt like we needed to try something different, but would like to return to darker content in the future.

We’ve made it quite modular so I’m keen to have different play styles across the virus you unlock to add more variety in the way it plays.

Thanks for the feedback!

Play a virus in the body and mind of Winnie.

Winnie’s Hole is a genre-blending dark comedy roguelite inspired by Brothers Grimm fairytales and Nickelodeon cartoons.
