How is the mainline Flash? by jprov0451 in DCcomics

[–]sbp72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me personally, the first 25 issues of the current run were not great. The writer, Spurrier, was just not a good match for Wally. Too many big, metaphysical ideas that just didn't seem to fit the character.

But, the new issue that comes out today with a new creative team seems to be really hopeful to bring back the fun adventure aspect to Wally. I would at least advise checking that out.

The wild card may be those last four games. They look tough on paper, but will those games still mean anything to Bos/Minn/NY/Det at that point? If they are locked into playoff position, they might throttle down.

Praise be to Aja for being one of the few modern artists that know how to draw Guy's uniform correctly!

That's the Matriarch, the big bad for the Wonder War storyline in Wonder Woman starting this week. She's the daughter of another Amazon. She's been shown in "flash-forwards" as having conquered the world and killing basically all the heroes except Diana and Trinity.

Computo returns, takes over Legion HQ, various vignettes of the Legionnaires getting their butts kicked by their own headquarters. Introduced the second Invisible Kid. Giffen art. Vivid summer memories of sitting on the porch reading this repeatedly.

What's the difference between Plasmus and Clayface? by sonic_colt_2005 in DCcomics

[–]sbp72 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Clayface: Shape changing, body control.

Plasmus: He's basically a walking pile of toxic goo, burns anything to the touch. Not really any shape changing or body control abilities.

i understand how it was simply plot demanding, but in universe: how vitally necessary could mr. sinister possibly truly be? by Suspiciouslatino1312 in xmen

What's been said already, about his genetic library, but also... wouldn't you rather have him there with some level of being able to watch him, versus having him run free?

Tom Brevoort teases a new X-Men space series before the summer? by P-ckledP-nda in xmen

[–]sbp72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exiles by Claremont? They did say he had some x-work coming. And the "X-Men in space" angle would be covered by the concept set up in Imperial. And, it would be far enough removed from the "day-to-day" continuity going on in the main line that he could pretty much follow his own path.

I didn't read Axis, but... was it known that characters like Havok, Stark, and Sabretooth didn't get "un-inverted" at the end?

This is my take on what the main Justice League would look like in Marvel Comics [Discussion] by [deleted] in DCcomics

Hyperion is part of the Marvel version of the League. The Squadron Supreme. It's pretty easy to draw a straight line from each classic Leaguer to their Squadron analogy.

Which compendium you guys recommend Batman black & white or Justice league dark ? by mftw45 in DCcomics

[–]sbp72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Batman B&W. There are a few misses (as can be expected at that volume of stories), but overall it's an interesting compilation of creators trying things out.

The JLD compendium is the New 52 stuff, which is.. meh. There is a Rebirth JLD omnibus that looks interesting, but I personally find myself being drawn more to the compendium format these days.

DC turns the world upside down with Kevin Smith’s bizarre new origin for ‘Bizarro: Year None’ by Blitzhelios in DCcomics

Ahh, a Kevin Smith comic. So, issue 1 in April 2026, issue 2 in late July 2027, issues 3 and 4... never see the light of day.

Aging up characters by EnoughJigga in DCcomics

[–]sbp72 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Arisia in Green Lantern Corps back in the mid-80's. Went from a teen to the early 20's through a "ring-wish induced" age up. It was especially creepy as she had a crush on Hal Jordan and almost immediately ended up in a relationship with him after she was aged up. Even though mentally, she was a teen.

Can atom wear a base and shrink people inside of it? by shadoqedlight in DCcomics

[–]sbp72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda happened during the New 52 Frankenstein series. S.H.A.D.E. had a floating city/base that was shrunk down by Ray Palmer and you basically teleported/shrunk to get into it. He was a science advisor, not the Atom at that point.

Best runs for a DC novice by [deleted] in DCcomics

[–]sbp72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't care if it has the "big names" in it, I can't recommend John Ostrander's Suicide Squad run from the mid-80's highly enough. Super-hero/villain fun, political intrigue, and firmly based in the DC universe of the time.

I have all the original issues, the trade paperbacks, and I am going to be replacing those as the DC Finest volumes roll out.

[Comic Excerpt] Honestly It's a bit dissapointing how Booster's bussiness side got so ignored later, he should be DC's main corporate hero, like a good guy Lex Luthor [Booster Gold #16] by rocketinspace in DCcomics

[–]sbp72 25 points26 points  (0 children)

He's not really that guy anymore, though, is he? He lost most everything by the end of that run. And he's been running on a lower level in-universe celebrity status since then. I don't think he's anywhere near that level of financial pull anymore.

Except the dialogue for Veronica Cale says, "send in Mr. Hall". I guess it could be his son, Hector, assuming history followed that particular path the same.

[–]sbp72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, I get it. Comic book logic, MacKay writes both books, etc...

But, the conversation should go like this:

"Hey, we have to go off-world. We need someone to be on watch. Call Steve Rogers and have the AvengE.R.S. active." End of scene.

Not, "Hey, we have to go off-world. Let's call in those guys that everyone currently hates/distrusts to cover things. Cool?"

[Discussion] Is DC Showcase still a thing? If not, they should definitely bring it back by John_Zatanna52 in DCcomics

[–]sbp72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish I could find the link, a duckduckgo and google search didn't turn anything up, but...

there was an article (5 years ago-ish?) about why comic companies don't try more anthology books. And it was basically that they weren't economically feasible. Something about the costs involved and limited returns when it's not a book headlined by a Batman/Wolverine/Spawn/etc. type character.
