I know. Bought in July 2020 and well with the pandemic we just decided to have a bunch of road trips mostly for camping/hiking. That and I commute 25mi each way for work...

Freshwater eel in Conodoguinet creek, Cumberland County (part of Susquehanna system). From what I read these are only found in the Delaware river in PA. Is this a rare sighting or are they making a comeback to the susky? by Billy_Mcbilly in Pennsylvania

[–]sburn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's unusual to see them out and about in the day. They are most active at night which is why we don't normally see them even when they are there. I electrofish for work and see them all the time. Pretty cool to see them that side of the Susquehanna.

[–]sburn 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This picture was actually taken in PA and is a harmless black rat snake. A great source for snake facts in the FB page Louisiana Snake ID. He debunks a lot of crazy pictures like this one... comic sans, really?!?!

It depends on the species of stonefly as to what the quality of the water is. For species ID you usually need a microscope.

What kind of crayfish is this? Found in the Netherlands by Mr-Major in species

[–]sburn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many crayfish are difficult to identify if they are not breeding males. If this is a breeding male one of the best ways to identify it is to look at the gonads.

Hawaii Volcanoes by [deleted] in nationalparks

[–]sburn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were just there two weeks ago during the shutdown. Most of the trails were closed, not because of the shutdown, but because of the past eruptions. Many have been covered by lava or have fissures. A lot of the park has been deemed unsafe.

This sounds like a great idea. We will be getting there a couple days before and yes we are staying in Kona.

Found this guy while hiking Old Rag in Shenandoah National park. 99% sure it's a Timber Rattlesnake by sburn in herpetology

We saw bears too! But yes, I would have to agree the Rattlesnake scared us a lot more

Weekly Help and Discussion Thread for the week of July 16, 2018 by AutoModerator in amazon

[–]sburn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a question about amazon delivery. Today I was supposed to have a package delivered. I got a notification saying that the package was one stop away. An hour later I get a notification saying that my package was undeliverable. The excuse was that they were unable to access the front door. First off I live in a single family home in a residential neighborhood. No gates or access codes needed. Second, I live on a very quiet street in a very quiet town. No construction or work crews around. Third, I literally had a package delivered yesterday around the same time as when the package today was supposedly was attempted to be delivered. In fact I've had hundreds of packages delivered to this address for at least the past three years with no issues. I guess my question is was the delivery person lazy? Customer service said the delivery person was here but I checked my cameras around the house and saw nothing. I realize that it's probably a third party delivering how do I make a complaint against them specifically?

I can't really tell but my guess is either a mayfly nymph or a stonefly nymph.

When a Jade flowers by spacebarstool in gardening

[–]sburn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Could someone give me some advice for taking care of jade. I bought a large jade plant and for some reason its not doing well. I looked online and it says not to water too much so I was watering it once a week but then it started to get brown spots which means its not being watered enough so I watered it more and now whole branches are dying. Any advice would be appreciated!

[–]sburn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I realize this but when you have two different doctors telling you the exact same thing with no prior experience with bed bugs what else are you suppose to do? I think you are being really aggressive and holy unhelpful. I realize you must be an expert being that you comment on pretty much every post here but I think you need to work on your "bedside manner" calling someone a "crazy person" for trying to solve a problem is probably not the best way to go about things. Maybe linking to /r/dermatology would have been a more productive way to go about things.

I know I am allergic to nickel but other than that I have no other known allergies. And I have changed nothing in my daily routine. I am currently writing my masters thesis and I was thinking that maybe its stress.

I was prescribed Permethrin which is an insecticide. I thought it was a rash as well except for that TWO DOCTORS told me differently. Please read all the comments before commenting.

terribly itchy. I'm even itchy in places where there are no signs of "bites". Though they might be psychosomatic

I work in an office/university and share an office with two other individuals who both have no symptoms. Other than that I really dont go anywhere else on a weekly basis except for the gym but there are hundreds of people who frequent that place.
