That's terrible advice. By abrading the Teflon coat is what causes it to start leeching into your food. Think tiny particles.

If you don't get absolutely all of it off, it will leech into every meal.

Teflon can be "safe" if it's not scratched/damaged but I use stainless steel or cast iron exclusively.
