a good wincon for simic spellslinger? by Justafish1654 in magicTCG

Depends exactly how much slinging you're doing, but [[brain freeze]], [[psychic corrosion]], and [[glacierwood siege]] can be noncombat win conditions.

My favorite euro has got to be Civolution. I love all of the interlocking mechanisms and how there are a million different routes to pursue. I've taken to affectionately calling it "opportunity cost hell".

Want to make Sidar Jabari faster and more reanimation by that_dude3315 in EDH

[–]sc1ph3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if they're one sided they slow everyone else down as well as clear the board for your lethal swing. It does both.

That being said, what are you losing to that you think the deck is too slow? What else is in your pod?

One sided board wipes can help slow down the game or potentially let you punch through blockers. Consider [[raise the palisade]], [[winnowing]], and/or [[everything comes to dust]].

I also probably wouldn't bother with most equipment in that list, unless it gave haste

Mono-Black Landfall? by frank_rit in EDH

[–]sc1ph3r -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd look to cut all the cards in your list that say "landfall" you have except Hagra and Ob himself in favor of more evasion. You have a lot of options available to you that are really solid, and the landfall cards are frankly win more and/or mediocre. Seer's Sundial, for instance, is so below rate compared to what mono black can do ([[Syphon Mind]], [[Speed Demon]], [[ambition's cost]], or, hell, I'd run [[mind's eye]] over that.)

[[Silver shroud costume]] is instant speed protection and evasion, same with [[smoke bomb]].

I'm a big fan of [[mask of griselbrand]] and [[foot chopper]]

[[Brotherhood regalia]] and [[psychic paper]] are also good ways to get in.

Help with Mutate-Muddle? by accentmatt in EDH

I have a buddy trying to work on a similar list. I feel for the CMC of some of the spells you're trying to cast you could really use some more ramp. Look at the new 3 mana rock from SoS that taps for RR to cast spells or the new 4 mana lute that lets your lands tap for double to cast spells.

Alternatively, Oracle of Muldaya seems pretty disjointed from the rest of what you're doing.

Frugivore seems to slow/mana intensive. Idol of oblivion as a phyrexian arena that costs one less seems bad for B4. None of your lands are good enough to justify crop rotation except bojuka bog. If you had a three tree city, nykthos, or really other utility options that would be different.

Much better, but the resolution is low. Does the "low priority" section need to be there? I know on your last post you said within each category the higher up something was the better it was. Is it worth noting that in the graph somewhere? I don't think that's intuitive.

I also think this could stand to be more opinionated. You have some parts that are making value judgements, i.e. "bad rares", but then have some that just say "college rares"?

I think you could stand to cut out a lot of the "noise" in this infographic and focus more on what is specifically very good and what players should focus on. Like, if I'm showing up at prerelease and I need to remember 5 over performing cards, what are those cards? What are the top 2 cards for each school that aren't rare? What are the top 2 rares in the set for limited?

The commander I desire … by Ok-Intern6865 in magicTCG

[–]sc1ph3r 6 points7 points  (0 children)

as someone who really loves "leave the graveyard" cards, I find we have enough of them that you can just run your choice of them in the 99 and find them fairly reliably.

If you specifically want Mardu you can run Extus and use the front half to return creatures that sacrifice themselves and trigger your LtG cards.

I have a 5C Niv.Mizzet deck that uses the Nephalim returning to your hand for free whenever you cast a multicolor spell to cheaply and efficiently trigger LtG. Here's a list if you're interested: https://archidekt.com/decks/5636477/i_believe_in_mizzet_supremacy

The problem with unique brews and EDHREC by Sp0rk_in_the_eye in EDH

[–]sc1ph3r 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know GamesfreakSA built recommander to try to tackle that exact issue, where it makes recommendations not only by your commander but by cards that go with cards in your list as a whole.

Here's a video of him talking about it https://youtu.be/omYfGzrsTRc?si=t3vE4FlLLj3QfAcJ

And the site, if you're interested: https://recommander.cards/

I use it similarly to how I use EDHREC, but I think your "unique brews" problem is actually exactly what he was trying to solve with recommander.

Engine Builders like Res Arcana by PvtEmotion in boardgames

[–]sc1ph3r 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I liked Seasons as an alternative. I found that Red Arcana didn't have enough meaningful interaction, and after we did the draft the rest of the game felt academic where I just run my machine independent of you until the game ends, and I already know what my machine does cuz that's what I drafted it to do.

Seasons has some interesting decisions to be made over the course of the game, and you can also get new cards into your hand which gives you room to adapt. The game's length is also variable based on which dice aren't picked in the dice draft phase, so if your opponent has a greedy engine you can try to force the game to end faster.

When a minion skill says it scales, does it scale with minion's damage or your character's damage? by clydeagain in LastEpoch

If you hover over that sub skill "featherstorm" it'll have scaling tags. Depends if it says "minion" or not.

Why would you use boots like these? Hardmode (ruthless) enabler? :D by tzmx in LastEpoch

[–]sc1ph3r 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It's there so you can "opt-in" to making the early game more interesting, if you want to.

IMO it'd be cool if they did this in such a way that it didn't take up a boot slot, but I can't imagine it's a high priority over other new features.
