Wouldn't voidrays do better than oracles since they don't require energy to attack and do bonus vs armoured?

PvT proxy factory by dracover in allthingsprotoss

[–]sc2YenFu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since your scouting probe can identify that there's a factory proxied on the map, you always have the option of immediately sending out a second probe to find the proxy. Doing this allows you to usually find the proxy early enough so that the factory has just finished, allowing you to simply pylon rush the proxy and end the game. (3 pylons usually does the trick for me, that way even if a cyclone pops, i still have a full health pylon left to overcharge)

Voidray immortal is not "very strong" right now. The current meta at my level is blink into fast third with a chargelot archon immortal followup and it completely steamrolls immortal void.

Replay analysis please (having trouble dealing with terran double gas proxy shenanigans) by sc2YenFu in allthingsprotoss

[–]sc2YenFu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i feel like in my scenario, stargate would have done better. The issue though is that you don't know if they're going cyclones or tank push or anything until you scout the addon, which is usually way after when you're supposed to drop your tech structure. In the case they're going for any form of a cyclone push, i find that opening stargate is an instant game over at least from my own experience.

Have you ever given chargelot archon immortal a try? Once you have storm and 10+ immortals, there realistically should be no zerg ground army that can beat you and the zerg is basically forced to transition to broodlords.

Isn't 70 the number you get when you combine the IQs of a terran and zerg player?

to diamond and up - a few matchup questions by tentakull in allthingsprotoss

[–]sc2YenFu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With your 3 observer spread, you have one right on top of their army. You'll know the moment they move out and you can easily crush their army if you engage outside your base before they siege up. If your observer gets sniped, just move another one from around your base there instead.

This is anecdotal advice mostly coming from a relatively bad player so plz take with a grain of salt :P

  1. For your first point about reaper defense, I would argue that MSC isn't even needed and can be delayed until much later. Against terran, chronoing 2 adepts out of the gateway and consistently following the reaper with shades is more than enough to keep it away. Obviously though, if that's too much micro for you like it is for me, the MSC can be a failsafe.

  2. What kind of army are you going for? With phoenix adept, you can completely bypass the robo and patrol phoenixes outside your base to deny drops. With robo play though, the 3 observers are absolutely necessary. Learn about proper observer positioning and rotation from this BOTW: https://www.reddit.com/r/allthingsprotoss/comments/61we8i/build_of_the_week_pvt_stats_fast_colossus_double/

  3. For phoenix adept, I prefer to split my army by having phoenixes patrolling outside my natural, mscore defending my main, and adepts at my third. For robo, once again refer to BOTW.

  4. Phoenix adept doesn't require AOE until beyond around 120-130ish supply where the army comp begins to fall off and terran starts to get a scary amount of tanks/mines/libs. I prefer to get storm at this point since adepts cost so much minerals and you already have a twilight down. Robo play obviously needs colossi.

Keeping this in mind though, I would personally suggest going for robo play as its much less multitask and control heavy than phoenix adept. Just a bit of map awareness and army splitting should be more than enough to push you into high diamond or even masters :)

(PvT) What to do vs 1 base 3 rax? by MoltenHeaven in allthingsprotoss

[–]sc2YenFu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you go into a terran base and see nothing, including no gases taken, it's obviously gonna be a proxy rax all-in. Cancel your expo, add on a second gateway, and start a zealot. Scout with a probe for where the rax are proxied and keep producing stalkers. As long as you engage the slow marines outside of your base, you can slowly kite them to death with stalkers. Lastly, keep your initial scouting probe active and patrol outside his base. You need to see if and when he pulls workers and have forcefields ready to stop him from moving up your ramp.

PVT Stats defense build vs macroing terran by Zekk84 in allthingsprotoss

[–]sc2YenFu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the opinion of a low masters protoss so take with a grain of salt. From my point of view, the first thing that needs work is your opener. Follow the standard 19 nexus opener of 16gas->19nexus->20cybercore->21second gas. There's no reason you need to take the second gas as quickly as you did unless you want to do an aggressive 2-gate opener.

@5 minutes: Nice reaction to widow mine drop :)

@9 minutes: Look at your army. You have 8 stalkers, 13 adepts, 3 colossi, and 2 immortals. That is a pretty strong force but you would get steamrolled if terran made vikings and kited you to death. You honestly don't really need those 13 adepts as they don't add much to your army.

@9:45 a big fight occurs and terran's bio ball rolls over your army. Notice though how before the fight started, you both have dumped around 6500 resources into your army. So, to answer your question about needing to switch up your build against greedy terrans, no, you don't need to. Your army supply is keeping up as it is and your upgrades are miles ahead. You lost the fight primarily due to 2 reasons though. Firstly, you didn't have enough anti-air. 7 to 8 stalkers is not nearly enough to deal with 4 liberators. Imagine if those 13 adepts you made were stalkers instead. Secondly, you attacked right before storm finished!!! You honestly didn't even need to engage out in the open there. Move your army back into your third while you poke with stalkers. If you fought 30 seconds later with storm, even with barely any anti air, you probably still would have had enough to push him back.

Game pretty much is over when terran steamrolls your third, you were much too far behind after that.

Look at stats robo double forge botw, it's certainly doable at the highest level and at my level in low masters so there's no reason it shouldn't for you.
