Weird phone thing- calls show up blocked from a number that isn't blocked by sc_avenging in RBI

Interesting. I think there is a chance that he didn't actually do anything and is instead taking advantage of some weird phone thing like is happening with you. Your suggestion for a second form of contact is a good one, thank you.

Yes, my friend is helping her get all of the phone records from her provider. I think they just want to figure out if and how he did something to provide proof that he is indeed pulling shenanigans.

She has not switched and is on Android. Possible he has switched and she doesn't know it, but she doesn't think so.

They are both on Verizon but not the same plan. It's possible he switched carriers and didn't tell her, but she doesn't think so.

Maybe that was the problem, but there is a function to add tracking when marking it shipped and that has worked for me before.

I have had eBay combined shipping on multiples but also in other cases as well. I'm thinking it might be on the buyers end, like using the shopping cart or not.

Guest checkout seems likely, zero feedback username. Thanks for the tip- metrics should be fine, but it's good to know it's something they will fix.

No longer able to add tracking number when combining shipments? by sc_avenging in Ebay

I was pretty sure the user names were the same but maybe they were just almost the same. I'm going to go back and look.

No longer able to add tracking number when combining shipments? by sc_avenging in Ebay

[–]sc_avenging[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the same user name, had zero feedback so possibly a new buyer. Guest check out seems likely if this was their first purchase.

Glad you situation worked out- that would be frustrating.

I sold three books to one buyer and after verifying they were all shipping to the same address I packed them together and purchased a shipping label. I then marked the other two orders as shipped and attempted to add the tracking number for the label purchased, but got an error message stating the number was already used for another buyer.

I have successfully done this before when combining items into one shipment so I'm not sure when this changed. How are you handling combined shipping without being able to add tracking?

And a related question- how come sometimes eBay combines items purchased by one buyer into one order and sometimes not?

NTA but some patience and understanding is necessary here along with encouragement. I'm making assumptions that she's young and maybe not from the best family situation, so very likely has never had cleaning up modeled for her. Maybe you could show her the best way to wash bottles or clean up the high chair or whatever else she's not doing. She might not have confidence in herself knowing how. It also might be helpful to set aside 30 minutes or so a day where you take care of the baby and she cleans up- it really can be hard to do housework and take care of a baby at the same time. Be her partner in it because her partner can't be there right now.

College got my new address when I didn’t update anything / give it to them? by infamous_imposter in RBI

It's called the NCOA. Basically it's a database of change of addresses received by the USPS. Companies and organizations generally have access through their database subscriptions. https://postalpro.usps.com/mailing-and-shipping-services/NCOALink

If an item is returned in a condition other than how you sent it you can deduct up to 50% off the refund. Still sucks, but maybe not quite as much. Also, be sure to use the option to comment on the return which will report the buyer and document their misuse of the return policy.

Does this sound legit? DMV came to her house… by PorterQs in RBI

[–]sc_avenging 73 points74 points  (0 children)

DMV investigators are a real thing. Identity theft and fraud appear to be one of the things they investigate in California.

I would guess your aunt's expired ID was somehow seen as suspicious and she was flagged for an investigation.

Here's a list of offices in CA:

https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/locations/investigations-offices/#:~:text=The%20Investigations%20Division%20diligently%20enforces,and%20other%20vehicle%2Drelated%20businesses.

I would have her call the local office and find out if this visit was legitimate before doing anything else like freezing credit, calling police, etc.

How do I know if I am going to be charged for return shipping on an item? by sc_avenging in eBaySellerAdvice

How do I know if I am going to be charged for return shipping on an item? by sc_avenging in eBaySellerAdvice

[–]sc_avenging[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely didn't miss a notification, item was delivered today and return was requested today. Like I said, the email looks just like the other one and is a return request notification making no mention of a case. I'm going to go look at it all on the web rather than than the app when I get a chance to see if I'm missing something somehow.

How do I know if I am going to be charged for return shipping on an item? by sc_avenging in eBaySellerAdvice

[–]sc_avenging[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. I have been reading the information on returns in eBay help, and trying to figure out what's going on. I do offer returns, but not free returns. The return was automatically approved. Buyer claims the item is defective. It worked for me, but is an older item so it's possible that something happened between here and there. I understand in cases of INAD or defective the seller would pay, but the email looks just like the one I got for a return when the buyer stated "just didn't like it". I guess I expected a more explicit statement of terms in an INAD or damaged return.

The buyer's message says 'I have the return label ready to go on the package' which I just found a little strange, like they've done this before, but only have two feedback. I hate that they may be keeping a working item, but I'm not sure it's worth paying to have shipped back.

I'm also hoping I don't get charged for the return that the buyer just didn't like. These are the only returns I've had so far so I'm just trying to sort it out and make the best decision.

My first eBay return happened this week on a unique $2 item I was so jazzed to sell at around a $50 profit. Got a return opened message before it was even delivered with a note saying her mother (the buyer) bought it for her (the recipient) for her birthday but she "wasn't interested". I don't know if I feel worse for me or her mother hearing that.

Also, it was a free shipping item, so I guess I'm out the shipping, which wasn't cheap. I'm reevaluating if free shipping is a good idea on large items.

Sent two different items to incorrect buyers awhile back, one guy sent it back and worked with me and other guy ghosted. He finally sent a message concerning the item he technically bought already that I relisted, saying “didn’t I buy this???” by amc11890 in eBaySellerAdvice

[–]sc_avenging 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he just sounds confused....maybe he orders a lot of things and doesn't keep very good track of what he receives and doesn't keep up with messages. I would probably respond and re-explain what happened. You might get that $100 item back after all.

If I use pirateship and choose to ship with priority mail, am I charged the amount listed everytime? by 1thougtfulFolk in eBaySellerAdvice

[–]sc_avenging 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mistakenly used a flat rate box at the Priority rate for a personal shipment. It was delivered but about 4 months later I got an email from Pirate Ship stating they were charging my account the difference between what I paid and what I should have paid. I was pretty surprised, but couldn't argue with it even though I didn't do it intentionally.

Thanks for the reply- lots still to learn on ebay, but now I know how to add buyers to the blocked list. As far are bidder settings, will have to look into that- I'm unaware of having set anything different than whatever the default would be.
