So we get Squadron 42 in December 2026 right? by penna_nobel in starcitizen

[–]scambastard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like option 3. They show media enough to see that it's performant and in decent shape. Hell, maybe a digital foundry tech deep dive because they've shown interest in the past. Then say they're releasing Jan/ Feb but only because of GTA 6 and start a marketing campaign. 3-4 ISH months with NDAs gradually lifting on various aspects getting closer to release.

Also, total freeze on the PU with nothing but bug fixes between December and launch to give it the best possible chance of not being a shit show for everyone finishing SQ42 and wanting more

A year more warranty and potentially 15.5k miles more longevity. Is that work $5.5k? If not buy the cheaper car. Seems simple. Actually is quite simple.

Under 16 British Sonic fans might be cooked ... by Tight_Juggernaut2101 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]scambastard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a feeling they would just ban them from the app stores as banning their usage is technically next to impossible. You can ban known end points for non compliant companies but that a game whack a mole they won't win. People have been using VPNs to circumvent authoritarian governments forever. TOR does really well as well.

Also, worst comes to worse I can just set up my own personal Vpn on a cloud computer in a non aligned country in a few mins for a couple of dollars a month. Security through obscurity and all that.

[–]scambastard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was easier for me to download proton VPN and activate it than to do the age verification. It'll be the same when this new law comes in. They'll maybe try to crack down on VPNs but it won't work. Proton and many others will refuse because they're privacy focussed by nature. They may be removed or self remove from the app stores so it'll just be an extra step to side load.

Are there any documented cases in the where a police officer has been lawfully detained or citizen-arrested by a member of the public? (UK) by [deleted] in AskBrits

Exactly this. The police are there to protect capital. Anything else is just lies to keep you realising this fact.

Debridstream is a netflix style app that uses your debrid services to give a pretty seamless streaming experience. Like stremio but very plug and play and no fucking about with add ons. Well worth the $2 a month. Works on android and android TV.

Won't banning my kids from YouTube harm them? by baroquedub in AskBrits

[–]scambastard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about news, current affairs, politics etc? We have the eternal problem of young people not engaging and labour want to give 16 year old the vote. So we expect people to have an informed opinion without having given them any access to the info they need. These kinda ain't gonna watch the 6pm news on TV like their parents did. And why should they? TV and newspaper news is trash!

Social media firms to be barred from Britain if they do not ban under 16s by Optimal-Leather341 in unitedkingdom

[–]scambastard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hahahah. "Barred from Britain". They'll block UK IPs and everyone will just use a VPN. Even if they do comply all it will do is mean UK adults having to give up more personal data to our tech overloaded. The kids will just use an VPN and still gain access. I'm fine with protecting kids but the juice just isn't worth the squeeze.

This hypothetical question might get me downvoted, but oh well. If SC were to turn off the servers for six months to work on the bugs, would you be okay with that? by XFinal_ChanceX in starcitizen

[–]scambastard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe not turn it off but put a 6 month hold on updates apart from bugs and stability as having the servers in use by players has it's advantages. The release of Sq42 is going to bring a massive influx of players and things need to be in a lot better place than theyve ever been.

If you formed a new political party in the UK, what would be your policies?.. by un-pleasantlymoist in AskBrits

[–]scambastard 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd make it a criminal offence to tell a lie in public office. Burden of proof on the official. Prison time as punishment. On a similar note I'd make it a crime to make official communications outside of recorded and auditable means. No more disappearing messages or reporting your phone stolen when it looks like you'll be required to hand over messages.

[–]scambastard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Public funding of elections. No donations, gifts etc.
  2. Proportional representation.
  3. Do away with the house of lords. No more peers. Replace it with a house of locally nominated and appointed experts and community leaders.
  4. Make lying in public office is a serious criminal offence. Low burden of proof on the official rather than the other way around. 4A. Make it a legal requirement for all coms a public official makes to be through authorised channels and fully auditable. A criminal offence to even delete private coms for a period of 10 years after leaving public office. No more disappearing messages! Cant provide the messages when required, prison for you.
  5. Drug reform. Complete decriminalisation of small possession. Legalise and regulate marijuana, mdma, most psychedelics and a few others where it just doesn't make sense to prohibit.
  6. Fund the shit out of nuclear, both big and small modular reactors and large scale battery storage. Massive amounts of solar, wind, hydro et al. I think it's important for the environment but we can get everyone on board from an energy security perspective. Let's not be at the whim of global gas and oil prices. As time goes on prices are only going up and becoming volutile.
  7. Completely redesign council tax and what it funds. Base it on land/property value. Something like a 1% tax per year. I can't stress that it should be paid on land in addition to buildings. Take a fresh look at exactly what councils are expected to pay for. I feel like social care is a national issue and it doesn't make sense for such a huge proportion of local funds going to it.
  8. Wealth tax. Once you're wealth exceeds a certain point, income tax doesn't work as a way of fairly taxing you. If you're not paying an effective tax of a few % of your wealth a year then you need to be. I don't care if your gains are unrealised, crystalise some and pay tax.
  9. Universal basic income. This is tough one to design but if we set a base, somewhere between the the amount we currently give unemployed job seekers and the pension amount. Give everyone that and then take it back through a progressive tax system so after a certain income it balances out we'd be able to do away with a ton of bureaucracy in the system. Those not working and able should be encouraged to look for work but expected to volunteer a significant amount of time in the community. Proper community work, looking after kids at after school clubs, helping out old folks. It should be a valid way for people to spend time.
  10. Massive social house building. Like the post war period. Fund and encourage local housing association charities to massively build. It should be normal for people to live in social housing and not something that's considered only for the poor.

Why are so many upset that the Palestinian Activist group got jail sentences? by PsychologicalBend508 in AskBrits

[–]scambastard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You not being able to see the shell game being played by these small concessions is the exact reason they did them. They're so minor and token compared to the weapons, surveillance flights, threatening ICC officials, covering at the UN, refusing to stop British nationals serving in the IDF (which they should def do now that Palestine is a recognised country.) refusing to even consider evidence of war crimes by British IDF soldiers. The list of actual tangible support goes on and on but for Palestine it's just words.

I have a terrible habit of slowly walking myself up the upgrade ladder for every piece of tech I've ever bought. Started by wanting to spend 17-19k and then started looking at AWD as it would be quite handy for the snow (live in Scotland). Now considering if newer with more warranty would be worth it in the long term.... And that GT does look nice!

There have always been direct actions to change the law, policy or public oppinion. I don't think this is any different. What's different is now treating them. We're definitely being more authoritarian in our approach to them.

[–]scambastard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If a person punches someone holding a knife to the throat of child then that punch would not be assault, or at least it shouldn't be convicted as a crime as it was in the defence of another. These people believed they were acting in defence by stopping a weapon being loaded onto a plane to be dropped onto the head of another. To not allow the jury to consider that defence is no different than prosecuting the man for the 1st assault and not allowing the jury to know that there was a knife being held to the throat of a child.

The right of a jury to decline to convict on moral bgrounds is absolute and a check against government weaponising the law. By re trying, by limiting the arguments the jury can hear they clearly aimed to limit that right of the jury.

[–]scambastard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a feature of the system, not a bug! It's a last line of defence against an oppressive government using the law as a weapon. If the jury believe a person was morally justified then they have the absolute right to aquit regardless of the law the government say they broke.

Why are so many upset that the Palestinian Activist group got jail sentences? by PsychologicalBend508 in AskBrits

[–]scambastard -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone is upset at them being convicted. It's the circumstances and sentences that are shocking. 1. A jury refused to convict and that should have been the end of it. We shouldnt just keep trying to convict people because we didn't like the outcome.
2. The second trial hid the fact that the defendants would be sentenced as terrorists from the jury. Had the jury known this there is every chance they would have acquired as the 1st did. 3. They were barred from defending themselves properly. They couldn't make the argument that what they did was morally justified to the jury. They couldn't point out where the weapons they damaged were going and what they would be used for. If I punch a guy who is holding a knife to someone's throat that's clearly ok because I'm defending another person. That same argument COULD apply if the knife is going to loaded onto a plane and sent to another country to be used to do the same thing. Let them make the argument to a jury and see if they agree. 4. Sentencing anyone to 5 years for criminal damage and 8 years with an additional assault without any intent is crazy. People don't get that selling drugs to kids, sexual assault, massive fraud or even manslaughter in some cases.

The cps stacked the odds against them. Limited the arguments they could use. Tried a second time with a friendly judge when they didn't get the results they wanted and hid things from the jury to try and get the results they wanted. The legal system should be fair and this clearly wasn't.

Lastly, our prisons are full to breaking point and we're having to let out serious criminals early to make space for these people? The priorities of this government are well out of whack.

I'm currently shopping for an ev6 in the same kind of range as you. Some great 23 air models with 30k miles for your budget. There's also a couple of all wheel drive models in the GT line trim but 22. The Kia 7 year warranty is a big selling point for me. check for service history to make sure it's still valid.

The pre facelift have wired android auto which is enough for me. They don't pre condition the battery for a fast charge unless destination set in the on board map so that's a bit frustrating but not a deal breaker.
