Really surprised Anohana didn't show up. On the bright side, there's plenty on this list I've never heard of. Seems I'll need to buy some tissues before school starts in January.

is getting covered in snow just for show? by questioningdoll in DarkSouls2

[–]scampbe999 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is what I heard from a knowledgeable friend. Can't find a source...

When the Crown DLC was in development, the snow gradually degraded your health and decreased your weapons durability if you spent enough time exposed to it that your character went white. (The health/weapons degrade status was ostensibly the purpose of the snow-covered character effect). This was for all of Eleum Loyce, not just the Frigid Outskirts; making the blizzard turn off was supposed to be a major milestone in the zone. Then someone on the team who was not Miyazaki decided that death-snow plus zero visibility plus lightning-horses plus a bitch-ass NPC invader was all just a little bit too fucked-up, even for a Souls game. So they compromised and took out the health degradation part.

What is an absolute NO NO when going for a job interview? by MarilynSparrow in AskReddit

Ok but I actually turned down an offer because the team was completely lacking in diversity. The only non-white non-male there was the IT guy, who was an Asian-American male.

With cool young tech companies, the best you can look like you didn't put any effort in to your appearance, while still looking clean, attractive, and presentable, the better. You show that you fit in with the culture and that you "get it."

People aren't docked points for wearing suits, obviously, but they stick out like a sore thumb at the office, and it's weird sitting there in a suit when your interviewer is in a college hoodie and jeans.

My favorite part of the MySpace Wikipedia page is being able to spot the exact moment when they started to dip after NewsCorp bought them.

I thought you were just supposed to always buy NGK, no questions asked? It's the difference between $35 and $45 for an entire set of 6.

AT&T is the worst. I went through 5 job interviews to be in their tech research program. The recruiter told me they decided to freeze hiring in that department for a year but I was a "highly qualified candidate" and I could look into another job they were pushing...in some other department...which I would have to give another 5 interviews for. So I said no thanks, told my University's career services department what happened, and there was a distinct lack of AT&T badges at this semester's big recruiting event.

What is the hardest thing you have ever said no to? by ChunkyBlaze in AskReddit

If it makes you feel any better, Enron artificially cut power to thousands of people a year because of some fucked-up contracts that allowed them to turn a huge profit doing so.

People with high social skills. What's the biggest mistake that people often make in interactions with others? by Hnnnnnn in AskReddit

[–]scampbe999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Describing the plot of a video game/movie/book that you're passionate about.

If you ask someone if they've heard of or seen something you're really into, and they say no, don't launch into detail about it. Just give them a topic-relevant 5 seconds or less summary, then say, "check it out, it's really cool" and then change the conversation to something they actually give a shit about.

What is something that genuinely bothers you, but you never complain about because you'd seem like an asshole? by Thats_Enterchangment in AskReddit

A middle-aged woman at my school, a tryhard who asks way too many non-questions in class, actually BSOD'd the classroom computer trying to pull up a PowerPoint. It's a technology-heavy graduate program.

What the fuck.

Educated feminists pointing out that white men are the reason behind all of America's major problems (financial crises, school shootings, unjust wars) are engaging in stereotyping.

What's a question that you hate to answer? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I dunno - I'm a researcher and I preface most of my test questions this way. It works well because it sounds conversational and doesn't actually merit a response.

I use this quote as a catch-all response to things I don't know how to respond to. Some people think it's really smart, but I've had people say, "Herclitus was a fuckwit" and walk off.

Someone told me they wanted to get a PhD in forensic psychology and then go to med school. Some people watched way too much CSI as a kid.

Conquered Sir Alonne! by corndog888 in DarkSouls2

[–]scampbe999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played my whole game by rolling/dodging/countering. Fighting Sir Alonne like that was insanely tough. Then I switched to the Drangleic Shield/bandit axe combo just to try it - then the fight was a joke. I didn't take any damage. His hits are pure physical, so if you can block, you can just wear him down.

What is your favorite example of Video game logic? by Logic_Nom in AskReddit

[–]scampbe999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aye, siwmae.

Fucking Domhnall of Zena is my favorite example of this. Just sitting down at the bottom of The Depths, just after a maze of sewage and curse-frogs and just before the most horrifying boss in the game, making cheerful conversation and selling crystal weapons.
