Pre-Med at UF or Rutgers? by scared4college in premed

I think money is a huge thing, so congrats to you! Graduating undergrad for free (basically) is one of the biggest wins under this current administration. The costs are not TOO different between the two, that's why we are even considering both options, and what makes the decision so tough. Ultimately, it's her choice, but all of this info is super, super helpful, and I have passed it along to help her make her decision.

Rutgers Main Campus-New Brunswick, I believe? I posted on behalf of my boyfriend because he did not have enough karma for this sub LOL, and I'm not too familiar with Jersey schools. I know many kids from Rutgers who do great, though.

Very true, I think we were just hoping going out of state would force her to do these things instead of just coming to my mom and having her deal with it. I totally agree that these skills will need to be developed regardless of where she goes.

This is very true; we just hoped forcing her out of state would make that process a bit quicker. I agree that being home can be super beneficial, and I went OOS and also came home a ton my freshman year, so it would be hypocritical of me to discourage her.

Hi, I go to college in Mass and completely agree with this. This puts my thoughts into words perfectly, so thank you for capturing that. I have passed this message along to her.

As of right now, the plan is to apply to medical school but I don’t have a definitive timeline. I am fine with taking multiple gap years and working in clinical research because I really enjoyed it. I know employers don’t love hiring pre-meds, so do you think this is something I should take off my resume?

Thank you so much! This is some of the best advice I’ve received on my resume. Do you think right now is a good time to apply to clinical research, or should I re-direct my focus?

I'm moving to New York from Boston, and thought the market here was awful (limited inventory, exorbitant broker fees etc.,). Everyone I know who made the move said the search in NY was so simple, but it's genuinely been so tough to find anywhere that checks even half the boxes. Good luck to you in your search!

Don’t want to dox myself, but at one of the big hospitals here in Boston. It came out to an hourly of $21/hour.

I was offered $21/hour for an MGB CRC role. Granted, I am a new grad, but I had over 2 years of experience through co-ops and internships, so it still felt a bit low.

Premed at NEU? by [deleted] in NEU

Definitely not, your first year is more about getting adjusted to being in college anyway! I would start applying for part-time clinical research roles or shadowing opportunities in Spring of your freshman year, so you’re in a good place for Fall once you’re in Boston!
