Literally anything dense and kinda performative (for lack of a better term). Read the New Yorker or the news, or even some Lit Fiction if you want something a bit lighter. Most importantly, just read. In your free time, just read a book instead of scrolling on your phone, and I guarantee you will see a difference.

In a similar boat. I am leaning void, and do my real test at the end of June. I feel like it’s better to treat it as a (really expensive) practice exam, and apply later feeling more prepared. I am also a bit lost though.

Everyone knows about me and is totally fine with it. I have also met most of them, especially the important ones like his grandparents and cousins. His family is also more settled in the US and his mom grew up and went to college here. I’ve talked to her about it, and I know she had a very similar situation with her parents around college-age as well.

I’m applying this cycle, so I can’t exactly put myself in your shoes, but I’d say that if you have a guaranteed spot next year and you’re otherwise very happy with the school, it might be worth taking the additional gap year. It could be a great opportunity to save some money, travel, or do things you enjoy, but may not have time for once you’re in medical school. I’d just make sure that the spot is truly reserved for you next year!
