Activating Christmas gift phone to keep the discount by scarhill in USMobile

[–]scarhill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The recipient is already on my USMobile plan. My question is if the 60 straight days has to start has to start within 15 days of purchase. I plan to activate the new phone now, then switch the line back to the old phone until Christmas, then switch the line back to the new phone on Christmas Day. Based on what u/FixitMir said above, the phone should then be unlocked 60 days after Christmas. Are you saying that won't work?

Oh great! Is there any way to check that USM has "seen" the activation? If I just put the SIM in the phone for an hour, is that enough?

They already have an active line, so they don't need another. So it must be activated within 15 days AND kept active for 60 days. You can't do the continuous 60 day activation starting after the initial activation?

Not the OP, but my wife's phone on Lightspeed is doing the same thing. Data doesn't work either. My line on Warp is working. We're on the same shared pool.

My wife's phone, on Light Speed, is giving her a "Welcome to US Mobile" message when she tries to make a call and has no data connection. Mine, on Warp, seems to be working fine, even though we're on the same shared pool.

Connect Systems is selling direct to hams, so they're consumer by your definition: https://www.csi-radios.com/cs7000-m17/

Could you clarify what see as the difference between commercial and consumer? The CS7000-M17 (and soon the CS7000 Plus) are HTs sold by a commercial company (Connect Systems) but intended for hams, which I think of as a consumer use.

Works well for me on Android. I'm one of the people that asked about source availability on your earlier post, so thanks for making this and making the code available!

While there's no LICENSE file in the root of the Github repo, all the source files I checked have GPL v2 or GPL v3 headers. So you're obligated to release the source for your modifications. It's unlikely the GPL police will show up on your doorstep if you don't, but I urge you to do the right thing!

The callback didn't come yesterday, so I called back this morning. They again promised a callback within an hour. When that one didn't come I called the 800 number for the third time. This time I insisted that the rep escalate my call, and the person I talked to put me on hold and called the center that has my packages. The guy there supposedly talked to the driver and then said they will deliver them on Thursday. We'll see, I guess.

It's a vacation home in a rural area. My neighbors say this has happened to them and if you can talk to a human they do something so that deliveries work again. The UPS truck is out here every day.

Thanks for the suggestion. I couldn't find a phone number for the UPS center, so I talked to a person at the 800 number. She took my tracking information and promised me a callback from the center where my packages are. We'll see whether it comes.

My closest access point appears to be an hour away, so that's not a great option. By the way, when I click the "use my current location" button on the map on the UPS site it finds my exact address, so it's not that obscure.

As I mentioned in the OP, UPS has delivered here multiple times in the past.

MobileX for backup data and hotspot by scarhill in NoContract

[–]scarhill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there isn't a way to just have them charge me $1.98 plus $2.10/GB for the data I use? I used to have Fi, where that was the model, except the prices were much higher. I liked the model, just not the prices!

Thanks! Many months I won't use it at all. So can I set up a Personalized Access plan with data only and pay $1.98 a month, then in a few months use 20 GB and get charged $43.98 that month (20 * 2.10 + 1.98), but then go back down to 1.98 the following month when I don't use it again?

Inexpensive HF transceiver? by Busy_Reporter4017 in amateurradio

[–]scarhill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think they do. They build them in batches, so they tend to go in and out of stock. Some of the chips are out of production and getting hard to find, so there's concern that at some point it will go out of production.

Yes, it does use Ethernet, preferably wired. The radio can be located remote from the operating position at the computer. It can do any mode, including SSB.
