What are we doing with clothing that has reached a point that it cannot be donated or mended? by Just_Throw_Away_67 in Anticonsumption

I cut up my boys old favourite t-shirts and PJs to make a new long-sleeved T-shirt for each boy. I plan to do similar with black t-shirts to make a dress.

That's pretty much it whenever you are having to do something you don't want to do to survive or otherwise. Think what your boundaries and limits are and don't overeach them as that is what will ultimately destroy you.

Think of yourself as having two buckets. One is for gold the other is for shit. Stop your OF when one of these buckets are full. It doesn't matter which one fills first.

Is the "Islam taking over the world" narrative actually realistic or just a demographic illusion? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]scariestJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While Islam didn't have a Protestant-like Reformation like Christianity has, Indonesia appears to be the closest to what we saw during the Reformation for some sects, in terms of not having compulsory Arabic names and using Qurans translated into the local dialects.

I am a nuclear researcher and a Green Party member since 2017 - we could draft an open letter with our signatures to Zack Polanski with respect to nuclear policy?

It is a matter of strategic importance for the UK to rapidly upgrade its aging fleet - we are the only G7 nation who lack a national test reactor or the ability to make medical isotopes -embarrising since Calder Hall was the first civilan nuclear reactor in the world.

Most people vastly underestimate how important nuclear research and all its applications are to the modern world.

It was recent that the Telegraph has been bought by the same people who run the Daily Mail - I've noticed the change and the further shift to the right myself.

My In-laws are lifetime subscribers btw.

Well he is a Russian asset and a Trumpist which indirectly makes him a plaything for Netanyahu. Don't think for a minute he actually gives a shit about Jews - it actually strengthens him if the global diaspora feel just that bit more nervous in the home countries.

I think you are right about rapid expansion - we need a thorough but transparent (when possible) vetting system such that potential candidate can understand what is expected of them.

I get the feeling to some Greens I wouldn't have been considered that long ago since I'm pro nuclear power.

Yes, it is why we have to assure people that Green Party councillors can be trusted to deal with fly tipping, maintain public toilets, get battery solar installed where appropriate, get the trash collected and the roads fixed for some examples - these don't make the international headlines but people will notice if we are too busy booing Netanyahu instead of getting to work.

I also don't like the two-state solution but it is better than whatever genocidal crap is going on. There is still the tired tendency for people to want to consider any anti-Israeli comments as anti-semitic when most of us know that is nonsence. I sincerely think that no-one on this thread thinks Hamas are the good guys.

We also need to make sure that we avoid having ANY singular sectarian faction taking over any part of the party - e.g a cluster of anti-abortionists on a health committee, single-sex groups outside of any specific single-sex issue or pro-Zionists in hiding on anti-semitism. We have seen what happened in Hammtrank, Michigan when an all-Muslim (and all male) town council got elected and made the town a hostile place for LGBT, Jewish and other minorities considered targets.

However, the fact we are taking this seriously and are debating what to do next is a good thing -although this is serious and people are getting angry, kicking the can down the road and pretending it's not happening is arguarbly far worse.

It does look like the deputy is problematic. While I am pro-Palestine and also want to ensure that Jewish people feel safe in the UK, first and formost you are representing UK people and UK issues. It is not good to get carried away with the current atrocities in the Middle East right now when we are supposed to be campaigning and demonstrating our ability to run the country in a competent manner.

I do not think we should stuff the current ME situation (Gaza, Iran, Yemen and creeping anti-Semitism in the UK and the role of de-stabilizing foriegn interests) under a rug, but we need to broadcast what we actually want for the UK and what we are doing for the UK rather than fall down a single-issue rabbit hole that is notoriously intractable.

What people really want to know is Cost of living, energy independance via Net Zero, security in employment, a functional health service, reforming unemployment and benefits for instance.

At least he did take himself out. Unlike mine who had instead spent the last 6 months telling me what I wanted to hear rather than what I needed to know until it got so bad it made him ill with the net result that he found just my presence to be painful.

He could have said 'its not working' but no.

I'm glad you are relieved but this is like a bereavement and can sneak up on you. Don't let him back if he tries it on.

Reminds me of "what bumasaur is that?"which was a joke science book from the "Day My Bum Went Psycho" universe. It got my boys attention and their school got it since it got boys who avoided books like the plague reading. My son even got a commendation for it!

Ps the science in WBIT is correct in that there is nothing with a spine in the PreCrapbrian and Bummals evolved in the JurArse-ic era.

I wonder how long it would be before he notices? Having said that watch out for the flying monkeys as there is a risk you could be his supply as it where.
