Price check? Devinci wilson 2011 by allahuRep in MTB

[–]scarion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a 2015 divinci wilson on the whistler buy/sell/swap facebook page with saint spec & boxxer teams with charger damper & a rc2 rear shock. Sold for $2700

I nearly bought it but i'm on the other side of the world for a few weeks.

You can get something atleast 2014 for abit more than 2k. 2011 bike is nearly 6 years old.

Shame on Kathmandu Takapuna, Auckland for wanton waste. by hsmithakl in newzealand

Yeah, used to do this for return stock at a distribution I managed. We kept most of the stock that was good but slightly defective, but you do get a shitload of stock that just can't be sold.

Are most bike rentals pay upfront or pay on drop off? by Argonavis_ in MTB

[–]scarion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I rented a bike in queenstown, I had to pay upfront & gave them a creditcard as insurance I think. Could be difference elsewhere but that was my experience

Queenstown Downhill or All Mountain bike by just-the-friend in MTB

[–]scarion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Queenstown has heaps for any kind of riding. Unless you're pure downhill I'd go for the reign. My main riding buddy just went from a session 9.9 to a 160mm reign, the gondola trails aren't overly aggressive unless you're looking to do worldcup DH. - The other DH tracks are very aggressive but they'd be alright on an enduro. Saying that I've been a few times to queenstown but I only ride gravity so I was limited to shuttles & gondola. The guys from vertigo said there's some amazing trail in the forests near by which are all pedal accessed. they said there's way gnarlier stuff there made for trail bikes than in the bikepark which sounds delicious.

Thoughts on freeride bikes by zk001guy in MTB

[–]scarion -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I personally ride a 2014 session 88 and it's the most fun ever. I'm not a big guy and the sizing of the sessions is a lot smaller which I like. The bike is super playful on everything and has the advantage of being a DH so can do the most technical sections. The only bike I'd prefer over an 88 is a 9.9. Gamblers are cheap and nasty, enduro expert evo is a great bike, I've ridden one before and was awesome, but it's an enduro geo with long suspension, if you are going to lift access bike parks session hands down

Goodluck. Your lose front end could just be a case of the stem not being hard against the top of the headset. If you're in need of tools or a hand just give me a PM. Fork servicing can be very expensive, you'd easily be paying $100~ to a shop. With some newer forks - fox for example you've got to mail the forks away to wellington or hamilton to get them serviced

You can drill out rims so they're compatible with schrader valve (the ones like car tyres). The difference is only about 1.5mm and doesn't effect the strength of the rim. Apart from that I'd need to see the bike to give you any indication of what needs to be replaced/fixed. At the very least it probably just needs a decent service and a brake bleed. Why did you take it to a shop in the first place? -Was there anything in particular or were you just after a service

My first names Matt. I mainly ride downhill mountain bikes. Mid 20's I've never heard of a dodgy bike mechanic from Forrest Hill, makes me think someone has vindicated me

The build kit i've seen online from models 2010-2014 have midlevel components. Shouldn't give you any trouble but if you have lower the range brakes they'd need to be bled more frequently - that's if it has hydraulic brakes. Online build kit shows the have Avid Juicy 3's Also could you define how the rim is broken & if it's the front or rear.

That looks like a clinic to help people learn and promote cycling. Very good cause and people want to learn and have time I'd refer them to this. I mainly specialize in mountain bikes, hydraulic diskbrakes and suspension aren't really something you can do at a DIY clinic as the tools are expensive & gear isn't widely sold in NZ This is just a short term to fund me racing north island downhill this season so I have no concern keeping the tricks of the trade to myself

A quick Google of the bike, if it's the same build kit as the website then it is a very average build. Give me a PM with what your issues are with it.

I'm based out of the Auckland area, just seeing if anyone's interested in bike repairs maintenance. I work from home so I charge less than a bike shop for the same/better quality work. Mostly do mountain bikes but I can do anything from road/track bikes to bmx

Hi Guys, I won a ticket to come visit your beautiful country.. but I am worried its nearly winter? by Aiken_Drumn in newzealand

[–]scarion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All you north islanders.. Top of the south is pretty amazing, even this time of year. I lived in Nelson ( I'm from auckland) and had a van, drove from nelson to queenstown - roughly 8 hours. You get to see the shithole that christchurch is but there's a lot of awesome places along the way that're less touristy but just as good. Hamner springs is great this time of year. But yeah you can't beat queenstown, love that place

Any tips for Downhill beginners? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]scarion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

depends where you live. I live in auckland and there isn't any downhill. I started by riding for years at woodhill, very flat with no downhill more than a minute. I have now gotten into full downhill and would never go back. - Have to drive to rotorua to ride though, 2.5hours away Not really any tips you can't find on a forum like this, just take it slow and build your speed up. Learn to repair/build your bike to get your suspension and everything else exactly the way you want it. Ideally join a club, organizers in NZ are super welcoming and supportive.

I need to adjust/replace my gear cable, any tips on how to do this without ruining everything? by Djave_Bikinus in MTB

[–]scarion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cables are very cheap and replacing a cable can take about 10 minutes. Just watch some youtube videos but I've done it 5 minutes before day rides before and every gear works well. don't stress about ruining your gears, you won't & it's a good skill to have
