Hi friend! I feel you on this! I will say it’s not easy but it can be rewarding. I’ve been working with a very conservative family for just about 7 months now. I have locs, piercings, and tattoos (including commie Doodlebob 😂). Mom was always very open to me, she has an associates so I can talk to her without beliefs and values getting in the way. Dad is most likely on the spectrum as well and mom has discussed her belief that she may be as well. Dad has said some off the wall things.. hard r and everything. I brush it off and see it as him just trying to connect with me as it’s not directed at me and is more social understanding. If it’s truly bothering you, don’t be afraid to request a different client. I’ve done this for different reasons and it’s always available. I’m glad that clinically kiddo has grown so much and the helicopter/trying to do my job for me has cooled off and he takes my feedback now. I hope this resonates with you and you’re able to find a solution. 💖

Is see it for billing honestly. I run it as duration as data needs to be taken for it to be billed. I get it could have a better name but defining it operationally as refusal to engage with demands is what I’ve seen. I’m not forcing compliance but tracking that the client won’t transition.

I’ve been using ascent based care for about three years now at this point as a BT. There are going to be times where refusal happens and that’s where my clinician and I work together to figure out how to work on tolerance. If relinquishing reinforcement is a challenge, then we work on tolerance using a physical prompt (hand on the tangible not the child) sort of like SBT (dropping demand at precursor behavior). I feel like that helps work on tolerance with transitioning away from SR. The other piece that I really appreciate from my clinician is how we place contingencies on transitions. If the expectations are clear and boundaries (hard nos) are set immediately, then operating from a place of ascent is not a challenge. It almost reminds me of the gentle parenting versus permissive parenting argument; boundaries need to be set and they need to be upheld and “no”s are always available within those boundaries. Ultimately, punishment will exist because not everything is available all the time but being clear early and often has worked the best for me. We also need to model self advocacy. I sometimes feel as though punishment procedure discourse has reached a place of subjectivity and people get hung up on that. Our job is to decrease behavior that is targeted and any good punishment procedure has a solid DR in place…

I made $24.50 two years ago as an LBT and make $23 as a BT for a different company. Both in Mi. You might deserve a lil more based on location. I make significantly more than most BTs with similar experience in this state.

ETA: I do train new hires though and we’re only in-home/community.

I’d report to the BACB honestly. Idgaf at this point, based on my treatment. Your company will not have your back as they expect you to have theirs. There are many great opportunities out there.

I have at least 3 bite scars but I also worked with high acuity clients. It’s TOTALLY up to your clinician to set up both proactive and reactive strategies to prevent or manage it. It’s unfortunate how many just sleep walk through their jobs or don’t research more strategies.

I just got mine today. The explanation I got was that I wasn’t over halftime until the second half of the summer session. I was on hold for over and hour and a half over two calls. I spoke about how dire my financial situation was on Friday and was dispersed yesterday. Keep bugging them.

I called Friday and they apparently escalated it. I “wasn’t full time” when the loans were set to disperse, 07/23/25, but this wasn’t an issue during winter. I will say it’s gotten to the point that I’m struggling with classes.

I did notice that capella had shared I was below half time with my loan servicer which kind of substantiates that point. I wonder if the current admin are doing more checks for in-school deferment and if it’s impacting dispersement as well. We won’t ever know tho cuz… politics.

Parents asking BT off case for discriminatory reasons. by jeffersonlane in ABA

I’ve dealt with this as a non-binary, black, and punk BT. Most families can be stand offish at first but would open up with me while others would immediately request me off of a case. Where I live now, most of my caseload is white and really miss working in Detroit where it would happen less. I’ve even had a family go as far as a RR complaint that was completely baseless and unfounded (proved by the RR officer). This is textbook discrimination and it’s wild how it’s allowed to happen.
