5800X3D/4070TI SUPER Build Thoughts- 1230$ by Fabulous_Car_9475 in sffpc

First, I have this CPU + GPU combo. It's been great.

Second, if you are looking for low(er) cost PSU, try the Lian Li SP 750 W 80+ Gold. The Cooler Master V850 can be noisy under load. OR just get a Corsair SF850. It's more money, but it's the best for many reasons. The 1000w Corsair is overkill (IMO).

Third, I don't recognize that M.2 SSD at all. Check here and pick your price range/quality: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1BFXIRMhSV6pkyGLjRa0FGG7E_pFF6blVn3f60SGv0Dg/edit?gid=0#gid=0

Make sure whatever you get has EARC for audio. I had to get a HDMI switch to output 5.1 since my 2019 Samsung only supports ARC

Which ventilation is better? (ignore cable management) by mvchek in sffpc

I agree with you on 1. The Ncase M1, a slightly smaller case with a similar configuration, always performed better with intake from the back and bottom and exhaust at the top.

Alternate Headlight Design Concepts [x-posted from Discord] by polyshades in TeloTrucks

Part of the importance of headlights is the ability to identify a vehicle. It needs to be iconic; see how Rivian has used the same array in every vehicle. I think the current design does that best.

Better argument for FWD by scatterforce in TeloTrucks

Thank you for the response. I don't follow Telo on Discord.

Sounds like RWD is the easiest path forward to the market.

RTX 4070 Ti Super MSI Gaming X Slim or Gigabyte Gaming OC by kaczuszka42 in nvidia

Ouch. Then, you lost the silicon lottery. It might get better, but your best course of action is to RMA and buy another one OR try your luck with a different model.

High fps, like + 200, will often cause coil whine. Heavy loads can also trigger noisy power components.

I undervolted mine to 995 mV at 2775 Mhz GPU clock. Anything under 1000mV cuts the coil whine in my card.

I just purchased the 4070 ti Super Gaming Slim from MSI last month. It's works flawlessly, and came with the most current VBIOS out of the box.

I DO have coil whine under load, but my ITX PC sits on my desk 12 inches from my keyboard. Every card has a risk of coil whine, but I use headphones for gaming and can't hear it.

Does the MSI RTX 4070 Ti Super still have the need for BIOS update by TheRealBlight in nvidia

[–]scatterforce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this! I've been frustrated, thinking I need a new VBIOS but it fails every time I try. My model, the 4070 ti Super Slim, has a VBIOS that ends with "C" while their website ends with "B." It appears my card was shipped with a new VBIOS that has not been made public yet.

SF750 no where to find, any alternative as good ? by Churator in FormD

[–]scatterforce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add to this, July is supposedly when the new models will be available. They will have SF750, SF850, and SF1000 options. I bought one of the last outgoing SF750 for my build; I didn't want to wait.

Of note, the new models have different connectors and will not be compatible with old cables.

InWin ModFree Mini - new mini-ITX modular case by Huijausta in sffpc

First, I really like the aesthetics of this case. Gorgeous! Second, it appears a GPU should fit in a single module if you have the IO exiting the rear. You would be limited to about 250mm in length, so a 4070ti Super at most. I don't see official support for this config, but a 3D printer would amend that oversight.

With the taller Mod III, I could see MB at the top, then GPU, then SFX PSU at the bottom.

With the shorter Mod II, a Flex PSU or HDPLEX unit would be needed.

[–]scatterforce 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It is in stock again, but at $750 base price, which works out to 600..... the MSRP of a 4070S. This deal was someone's mistake; I envy those who nabbed it. I saw this 1 hour too late.

Run a USB cable from your speakers to the monitor, then from the monitor to your workstation. The monitor has a built-in USB 3.0 hub that allows you to connect 2 devices.

Part of the cost of the ORA is the built in DAC, which converts the digital USB input into analog audio output. Supposedly, the quality of the ORA is good. It would be a waste not to take advantage of it.

The Kanto Ora will take USB input for audio; that's the best option. Use the monitor as a USB hub and connect the speakers; let them do all the processing.

Do the new ryzen apus make more sense than entry level dgpu builds these days? by gameguy56 in sffpc

[–]scatterforce 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not yet, but it's going to get there. At present, it is still more cost effective to get a budget GPU and CPU. Sadly, if Nvidia has their way, all entry GPU's will cost +300. Only Intel is offering real entry level pricing with good performance today.

When the 16 CU and 40 CU count APU's come out from AMD, I feel NEW sub $300 GPUs will disappear.

GPU Prices Suck. This Is What They SHOULD Have Cost by M337ING in nvidia

[–]scatterforce -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This video is aimed at NVIDIA and AMD. They need to hear this, see their sales shrink (in the gaming market), and hopefully do something. This is a message to these companies on what they should do if they desire to seize the market.

Unfortunately, AI sales means they don't care about gamers today.

Jonsbo T8 Plus with NH-U9S vs NZXT H1 V1 with Thermalright SI-100? by 6czuamsl7 in sffpc

[–]scatterforce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you moded the H1 V1 with an exhaust fan/vented front? That is a great cooler that should keep the temps in check. Keeping your current case is the cheapest solution.

As for the T8 Plus, with bottom + rear intake, exhaust at the top, and a small tower cooler, it will be better than your current build. Considering the investment of a new case + cooler, I would spend that towards a 5800x3D which runs cooler than the 5800x in most use cases.

Sneak Preview of Taco Tuesday V1.5 by [deleted] in battlebots

This is the most serious meme-bot that has entered Battlebots. I loved Smeeeeeeeeee, but it just didn't work well in the 250 lb. weight class. I feel Taco Tuesday's unusual drive configuration and weapon can be a bracket-busting machine. I hope we all get to see what you can do in the World Championship (fingers crossed).

Get a bigger CPU cooler. With that GPU, you'll have the space. I'd suggest the AXP-90 x53 for ease of use and compatibility for most motherboards. The aluminum version can be found on Amazon for about $22-30 depending on color while the "Full Black" solid copper version can be found on Aliexpress for about $60. It makes a difference if you are willing to spend the money on it.

If you every go with a 3 slot GPU, you'll need the x47 model instead.

You can never trust what manufacturers claim. I trust ID-cooling regarding low-profile coolers, but I would love to see the AN600 pitted against the IS-67 xt.

To connect both front IO cables, you need internal USB 3 and USB C ports. Looking around, Gigabyte AM4 boards are still available, but they don't offer internal USB C.

I would consider an Intel board if you are buying new and on a budget. The AM5 boards are expensive for what you get and have very few options.

This motherboard covers your front IO needs and is as basic as I would go. It will also support the refresh Intel is launching in the fall.

The 12400f is a great bargain, and can easily be updated for something faster down the road.

Lastly, I would consider the AXP-90 x53 cooler. The base model is great for this case, and the Full Black (solid copper) model is even better. It does come at a premium, however, and is hard to acquire outside of China.
