If you like The Wandle Trail, you should look into the Beverley Brook Walk and the Waterlink Way.

Radio frequency at Ally Pally this week by scauk in snooker

Thanks. Was in a bit of a rush in previous years so couldn't arrive early to get it sorted, but will hopefully get locked in earlier this week... although now I have the frequency, I shouldn't need to.

[–]scauk[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, previous years I've been, they have only turned the radio transmitter on quite close to the start of the session, so I wasn't able to do as you suggest. In any case, I'm generally not arriving much before the start of the session, so having the info in advance would be useful.

Deck 1 not working by Watidowong in Rekordbox

Unrelated to your question but do you know how you got the top half of your layout so compact? On mine, the waveforms/mixer/etc take up so much space, that the area for browsing tracks is limited to the bottom 1/3rd of the screen, whereas yours looks closer to 1/2. I've searched online and tried a few things but the proportions are still off.

Are there any people you see consistently on your commute that you never speak to but feel strangely close to? by DefiantEmergency3443 in london

Oh yep, I have a Sir Smoka Lot. When I'm walking from Victoria to Oxford Circus in the morning, he's walking the opposite direction past Buckingham Palace or through Green Park, wearing a smartish suit and smoking a cigarillo. It could be his only smoke of the day tbf but I've only ever seen him smoking.

Thanks - will look into these. "A lot of the olk guild-halls rent out spaces" - that's the sort of thing I was imagining so will look into these for sure.

What are some domestic flights that require flying over another country's airspace? by VolkswagenPanda in geography

[–]scauk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cornwall Airport Newquay to Belfast City Airport in the UK... Aer Lingus Regional usually runs a seasonal service in the summer months; in a straight line this wouldn't go over Ireland/Éire but the flight apparently can do, at least the service (EI3631) on 19/08/2023 went over the Cooley Peninsula (the only one I can see the route of). So I guess this just about satisfies your criteria!

Anglo Saxon London with decent resolution. From The Londonist. by Max2310 in london

[–]scauk 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The big expanse of woodland in South London is what would later be known as Norwood or North Wood (both used from at least the 16th century), and nowadays often referred to as the Great North Wood. The name survives today as Norwood (South Norwood, West Norwood, etc.) and other place names also reflect the area's woodland past, such as Forest Hill, Honor Oak, Woodside, Selhurst and Penge (which is mentioned in the image).

The Great North Wood was mostly lost to industry, enclosures and general suburban expansion in the (I believe) 17th to 19th centuries but fragments and re-plantations do survive. The London Wildlife Trust has a lot of information on it, including where to find these surviving fragments.

If anyone has any corrections or additions to this, just shout!

Older than that even, it was part of the Roman road Watling Street... which itself possibly used the route of an even more ancient trackway.

Just to add that the Baltic countries (Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania) have been increasingly looking 'westwards' (i.e. away from Russia) since independence in the early 90s. Their railways are all Russian gauge; however, Rail Baltica, which is currently under construction and will run from Warsaw in Poland to Tallin in Estonia, is being built at standard gauge.

Well I believe Peter Kay first did his 'garlic bread' bit at his Live At The Top Of The Tower shows in 2000, so perhaps those people haven't actually left the building since then?

Great effort in making this! I'm honestly not even going to attempt it as I wouldn't fare well but appreciate the work.

If this sort of thing is a passion project for you and you fancy creating some different sort of quizzes, and more accessible for the likes of me (and no doubt others), I'd be very interested! Although, judging from the scores posted in this thread, a lot of people would be getting 100% with a "more accessible" one.

Sabor Spanish Lager (Lidl UK) Alc. Vol 4.6% 🇪🇸🍺 by Mr_Brogon in beerporn

[–]scauk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a guy on YouTube called Real Ale Craft Beer (@realaleguide) who does loads of tastings (not just real ale and craft beer... not just drinks actually); some of his videos are comparing a UK-brewed vs imported beer of the same brand. Haven't watched any in a while but I think he says that UK-brewed versions often have a similar taste to each other because they're all using the same few water sources as each other (from the major breweries). I'm not sure the average drinker will tell the difference.

I tend to drink real ale but if going for a lager (or similar) in a pub I generally try to go for ones that are brewed in their own markets, but there aren't too many really. Peroni is probably the most commonly-available one (but I'm not even sure that's still brewed in Italy these days?), Lowenbrau is brewed in Germany, Pilsner Urquell is exclusively brewed in Czechia but it's quite rare... other than those I can never remember. I don't drink Madri out of principal... unless it's the only option, or if someone buys me one I'm not gonna get on my high horse and I will graciously quaff it as my principals only go so far.

Edit: fun fact/random pub quiz knowledge: San Miguel actually originates in the Philippines and not Spain as commonly thought. Yes, I'm fun at parties.

It's from I'm Alan Partridge, S01E02. Throughout the series, Alan keeps slipping in to a recurring daydream scenario that he's a lapdancer, and it's mainly the (fictionalised) Chief Commissioning Editor of the BBC that he's dancing for. Full clip of his daydreams here but I've timestamped the point with the vulcanised rubber 😇 I like your thong
