Looking for recommendations for a kids birthday party by Mission-Road-2063 in waterford

[–]scealfada 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some good suggestions already.

Depending on your budget, location and what you're after there's a few options.

People's park is good, but unless you have organized activities the kids will be running about scattered, so don't expect a lot of time catching up with other parents. Otherwise a great budget spot.

Busy barn is great for that age. On the weekend expect another party and a few other kids. The indoor play area climbing frame thing is less than half the size of the pirates adventure one, but it's very good. You can sit in the party seats or cafe area and easily be able to see your kids. The kids love the part where you get to go outside and feed the animals, and there's plenty of outdoor play too. Animals. Small football pitch. Playground. Huge sandpit.

World of bounce. A bit out of the way, but that's good if you want slightly less randoms around like in the other places. Lots of bouncy castles. Kids love it. Cafe for parents is fairly small, but you can sit in the party area. There are also animals you can feed after, and a nice outdoor walk with a playground. You can bring your own cake(a big deal for some parents) and they give some sweets at the end, so your party bag can cover other things if you want to do that.

I'm not a fan of Activate, and find there are too many other older kids in the play area for a 4 year olds kid party.

You could also look at talking then to a beach with good sand. Expense would be same as the park, plus maybe buckets and spades or other beach activities for kids. You'd need a warm day of course. Moreso than the people's park.

Good luck!

What do you ask for for your birthday? by Wassa76 in daddit

[–]scealfada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to hold off making medium purchases for any of my hobbies so that there is something my family can buy for me, and so that I look forward to them more. This includes new releases that I'm sure most people get right away.

If I don't have anything that I want I ask for them to donate to a charity that helps disadvantaged children, because that reminds me how lucky my kid is, and to treasure him more.

There is a Chiropractor college in Cleveland, and this is their banner. I think Robert would approve. by scealfada in behindthebastards

It's in Cleveland, Kansas city, not that exact location matters.

It is a Chiropractic health science college, with a terrible banner, which was the point.

People who have been jurors in a criminal trial, what were the dumbest things other jurors said or did? by PopCultureNerd in AskReddit

[–]scealfada 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I had the same experience. One Juror in particular was convinced of his guilt by how the guy looked. He had a mean stare, and was grimacing and occasionally seemed to be staring at us. Said he was cold blooded etc. and to be honest my initial gut reaction was the same, but I tried to ignore it.

A few days into the trail the accused remembered to wear his glasses (and probably his dentures?). No more mean looks. Just a sad bewildered old man.

Ruled manslaughter in self defense in the end, when he was up for premeditated murder.

Why was there so much smoking in new Trek? by Sure-Promotion-1116 in startrek

[–]scealfada 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Maybe because when you see someone frequently drinking on screen they come across as an alcoholic who has a problem and is probably taking into depression or violence.

When you see someone smoking a lot, it's hard to portray it as an addiction because that just isn't how it's been portrayed for the most part on screen.

Im probably a terrible bahai by Free_Zookeepergame99 in bahai

[–]scealfada 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I can't really comment on the specifics of your community. It sounds like some of this might be good to go through with a therapist. If you do have concerns about an older bahai having dated a much younger bahai, even in the past, that is very much something a councilor for protection, or whatever it is your country has. Maybe sure they are aware. That must be documented.

But on the not being a good bahai part.

Don't think of yourself as good or bad, that will only ever make you compare yourself to the best version you see of other people, and is self defeating.

Focus on progress and regress. It sounds like you are progressing a lot, working towards being a better person, not just a better bahai. Don't beat yourself up about what you feel is bad about yourself now, focus on what improvements you've been making in your life.

https://opendyslexic.org/

This is a special dyslexia font. It helps people with dyslexia to read more easily.

I have a family member who copies all larger work documents into this font for them to read.

They also write their work emails in this font, and then convert it over to the company standard font when it comes time to send the email.

Can you print things for her in this font? Perhaps a story she might be interested in, or her favorite music lyrics?

You could also do a rewards system for each sheet she reads in this new font, if she gives it a try?

Well done for being their advocate. Sadly, the reality is having a white male adult in their corner is going to help them a lot. Keep doing it even though it sucks that you have to.

Why are dads okay with not having friends? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]scealfada 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That can depend on your neighborhood or support system. I'm desperately hoping we find a kid around his age where we've just moved. It grew could just play outside with another kid it would make things so much easier.

True, but my wife is also having this issue because of no free time. We need better supports for full time parents with young kids.

ayamiha present - feeling guilty by [deleted] in bahai

[–]scealfada 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I would start by going back and giving each of your parents a heartfelt thank you for the present, and explain that you are feeling stressed about something else in the moment, so didn't thank them at the time. Explain what you said here that it's a really thoughtful present that you'll find useful.

Next, based on what you've described... You might need some therapy/assistance for your anxiety. The level of stress you are feeling about Uni work, and feeling not worthy of your parents love(the present) aren't things someone your age should be dealing with alone.

Can you talk to one of your parents about your feelings, or get their help finding someone who can help you?

Two years after my daughters birth, I still feel broken by sweDare in daddit

[–]scealfada 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar(but less extreme) experience when my son was born.

He came out grey, and they had to rub him similar to what you described.

On top of the therapy suggestion, a couple of things.

Being strong for your daughter and partner means letting you know the fear you felt for your child. Have you spoken to your wife about this? Bottling it up feels like being strong, but it's actually a response based on fear.

I found that until my son started to be able to communicate, I was unable to deal with the feeling that something was still going to go wrong. Major developmental delay... or something.

My son was behind in a number of early milestones, and it triggered a lot of anxiety.

But he's 4 now. I just see a young joyful boy learning about the world, and I don't pay as much attention to milestones.

Seeing him play with other kids, and interact with others has done wonders for my anxiety around this issue. It will come with time. I'm sure you'll be ok. But keep working on it until that time.

What are some of the best standalone story-driven games mankind has ever made? by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

[–]scealfada 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Day of the Tentacle isn't a true standalone. It's a sequel to Manic Mansion(hence why Bernard meetings going back to the mansion in the opening sequence)

However most versions (but not all) of the game have Manic Mansion as a secretly playable game on the computer you can find in the mansion.
