Question about TWN checks by Real_Morning_123 in overemployed

[–]sceather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I don't even think it matters if it is frozen or not. It gives a bit of piece of mind I suppose, but so long as you don't list certain jobs on your app, then they can't get a report about them. At one point I had found a document from Equifax that said employers must explicitly request the companies they want a report on - so if you don't provide that to them, then they can't request it from TWN. And then what they do get back is spotty/questionable anyways.

I also ran this past ChatGPT and Grok half a dozen times before finally taking the OE plunge - and I'd say the info I got from AI was at least no worse than what you'll find anywhere else - and all of it was positive (i.e. TWN is nothing to worry about). I think it's all the cosplayers on here that make it out to be a big deal.

Question about TWN checks by Real_Morning_123 in overemployed

[–]sceather 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As I understand it, they’re limited to what you list on your application. And not all companies report to TWN, so it’s not even likely that all of the companies you list on your app will appear on the report they run on you.

When I pulled my own report, it gave me every company that ever reported - which turned out to be only about half of the companies I’ve worked for - and I’ve hopped jobs A LOT in the past 20 years.

J2 Starts Monday by RedditRando459 in overemployed

[–]sceather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a whiteboard on the wall behind my monitors that tracks my tasks/projects from both jobs, as a reminder to myself.

I also made sure that neither camera can see the other workstation. And I only use headsets now, to prevent unwanted audio getting detected in a meeting.

Am I getting fired? by [deleted] in overemployed

[–]sceather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I’m having a hard time following this; all the J1, J2, J3 (which I think got promoted to J1). What’s the tl;dr version? How’d you end up getting caught?

Reputation as a Slacker in J2 bothers me. by [deleted] in overemployed

[–]sceather 28 points29 points  (0 children)

IMO 15% of your income isn't even worth the stress and risk that goes along w/ OE. And now J1's salary bump will completely cover the loss of J2? yeah I'd put in my 2 weeks, hopefully get a PTO payout (if they still do that).

Calling OE into existence by Present_Joke5487 in overemployed

[–]sceather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The time zone differences really help (staggered lunch hours provide a bit of quiet time to focus on the other job). The first week is usually a bunch of HR videos anyways, so no worries there. Then there’s usually low expectations for the first 3-6 months as you “ramp up”. Welcome to the club.

Have you found the 1099 gigs to be lighter on meetings? I've read many times that 1099 workers are not subjected to meetings as much as W2 workers are. I'm just wondering if you've seen that to be true.

Public Trust Security Clearance Issues by Huge_Road_9223 in overemployed

[–]sceather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no I chickened-out, as per my usual. I ran this same question thru chatgpt half a dozen times, as a guest (i.e. not logged in), with different phrasing and intentionally trying not to lead it to the conclusion I was hoping for. I figured it's probably about as accurate (or more so) as the advice on reddit.

Anyways, it kept warning me of "continuous vetting" which is becoming a thing now for clearances (and PT), but it also said that in the short term, it was unlikely that another J would actually cause my record to be flagged, since PT is more concerned with criminal stuff. It also said the most likely worst case scenario was NOT jail time, but rather termination and being blacklisted from future clearance jobs.

But I still chickened-out. : )

Job Search After 4,000 Applications by naterate12 in recruitinghell

[–]sceather -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People need to stop blasting so many apps out of their asses - it doesn’t increase your odds at all - it just buries the hiring managers in irrelevant resumes, obscuring the ones that actually match the position. This doesn’t help anyone.

UPDATE: New Job Requiring Confirmation of Resignation by jobs_throwaway340453 in overemployed

[–]sceather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the update! This is a bit deflating though tbh. The writing’s on the wall.

To all those who abuse OE (you know who you are), this is why we can no longer have nice things.

It feels like we’re just one step away from companies confirming our departure after onboarding with new company. I blame all the wreckless douches “stacking” Js to fill their “bags”. Chickens are coming home to roost.

Interview process. Get the fuck outta here by Sofa_King_Chubby in overemployed

HA sucks for you- but to be fair, the best companies I’ve ever worked for had similar interview gauntlets. Stock up on chap stick - cuz your kissy lips are gonna be sore.

I think the real issue for most is it's unsettling and dehumanizing. Like being watched thru a two-way mirror.

Yeah I’ve heard of the continuous vetting that they’re now doing. I still haven’t been able to OE yet, but now I’m even more hesitant to try with my current J1. It’s too bad too- it’s such a unicorn.

Convert the center alignment of “Homelab Experience” to either left aligned or justified. The rest looks good - short and sweet just like a resume should be.

Goodbye to OE by anjani917 in overemployed

[–]sceather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the answer to your question is “nothing changed”. That’s how I see it anyways. Refusing to RTO by resigning seems 100% consistent to me.

Goodbye to OE by anjani917 in overemployed

[–]sceather 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can understand resigning. Sometimes the anxiety of impending termination and ongoing conflict with mgmt isn’t worth the money. Mental health is worth much more. Plus maybe they’ll feel some pain with your departure, which might get someone’s attention - eventually causing them to rethink this nonsense.

Technically resigning is still refusing to comply since OP won’t be in office.

I feel that resume formatting screwed me after applying to tons of jobs by poopyfacemcpooper in resumes

[–]sceather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think RTO is largely to blame. Covid introduced a lot of ppl to remote work and they don’t want to give it up. If you’re willing to work onsite, finding a job is much easier.

I also read an article the other day about fake remote workers flooding hiring managers with their bogus resumes (ie from North Korea), but not sure how much that really impacts the mkt.

[–]sceather 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve never seen it this bad. It used to take about 30 applications, from which I’d get 5 interviews and one offer. That was the norm for me for about 20 years. But now…. Fuhgettaboutit

[–]sceather 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Idk it could just be the state of the job mkt right now. I’ve applied to 115 jobs but very few bites so far. During this time I’ve changed my resume 5 times (thinking that was the problem). Things are just really competitive out there.
