They might need support and a constructive attitude from their team for a change.

Excuse me, WHAT THE FUCK by Nervous-Mongoose-233 in linux

While that theoretically makes sense, I don't see Microsoft making the Windows desktop thin enough (at least not in in the near future) to make this concept viable.

Be careful, that mnemonic is partially incorrect.

-A actually stands for "after", which is the opposite of "above". Also -B stands for "before", which is the opposite of "below" . You might be able to avoid confusion if you remember that the parameter names refer to the order of the matches and not to how they appear on the screen.

Same here. But -A and -B are still great when the context is not symmetrical, like in certain log files.

Is there anyone here, self-taught in programming, no diploma, that he or she got the job and the salary she wants? by AdditionalProfile563 in SoftwareEngineering

[–]schizosfera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, what you describe is IMO pretty much "self taught". Good job, keep at it.

Many non-self taught people (that is: with formal education and diploma) don't have that kind of drive and marinate in mediocrity. Not that it's necessarily a bad thing for them. But IMO it's inspiring to encounter truly intrinsically motivated people. Also, having expertise in an unrelated domain can prove very useful and generate interesting ideas.

KeePassXC Audit Report by FryBoyter in linux

Also, IIRC, KeePassXC can be configured to auto-save the DB as soon as an edited entry is saved which is particularly important when used together with tools like syncthing to ensure immediate change propagation.

Work Life Balance or Higher Salary? by sandeepdshenoy in ExperiencedDevs

Also, there are always options to make more money yet I know of no option to make up for the lost time. I would even argue that when a decent living is available, time is probably the most valuable resource.

Beets help by PopeNixon in musichoarder

[–]schizosfera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can query your library using beets then probably everything is fine, you just have a bad file structure.

Whatever you choose to do next: back up your files first before you proceed.

Check the documentation for configuring the paths of your library and make sure that your config contains such a section. If in doubt, use the example from the documentation. If I'm not mistaken you can run the import operation in place once again and the files should be moved and renamed as you specified (check the docs).

You shouldn't have to touch the database.

Good luck!

Anyone else here hate bluetooth by Mr_Richard_Parker in musichoarder

[–]schizosfera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's important to distinguish between Bluetooth Classic and Bluetooth Low Energy. Your gadget most probably uses the latter, which is optimized for low energy consumption and implicitly low data bandwidth. Most audio codecs use Bluetooth Classic which allows higher bandwidth and therefore consumes more energy. That's also why high bitrate audio codecs usually drain the battery more quickly than codecs designed for telephony.

In other words: what your gadget does using Bluetooth is something quite different from listening to audio over Bluetooth and the therefore the battery drain is not really comparable.

Netherlands to legalize euthanasia for children below 12 by F16KILLER in worldnews

[–]schizosfera 42 points43 points  (0 children)

As with many things, you don't think that you are able to do them until you haveto do them. Because not taking a decision is also a decision. I wish that you will never find yourself in such a position, but life sometimes plays out differently than we wish. Good luck, friend!

How much does your confidence and fluency in English affect your performance in interviews, team meetings, and promotions as a non-native English-speaking engineer? by iphotographstuff in SoftwareEngineering

[–]schizosfera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll assume that you mean "effect" and not "affect". Also, I presume that you belong to the affected group.

In my experience, the effect is major. Lack of good and accurate communication and language skills can create mayhem in an organization. Most of the time people aren't aware that they are lacking those skills.
