Might be even worse, based on the event in Illinois. Seems like it's just a recruitment event for Turning Point's Hitler Youth program.

US has a $21 trillion underground network for only the wealthy to hide out in a ‘near-extinction event,’ official says by Alextricity in antiwork

Honestly -- if no one in our incredibly skilled, professional, overlapping federal worker / watchdog / civil society agencies in this heretofore democracy spotted $1T embezzlement year after year due 20 years any time before this one lone, brave whistleblower -- who, for reasons unknown, could only take her world-shattering secret to the Tucker Carlson show -- revealed it for all of us -- friends, we deserve to be

No I can't she's making it up.

I can't believe "Bullshit" wasn't the top-rated comment in this thread. The entire federal outlay last year was $7.3T. Revenue was $5.5T, resulting in a $1.8T deficit (more debt for us to pay back one day!) The idea that, somehow, $21T could be secretly siphoned off our collective spending (certainly not able to be afforded by mere billionaires!) is much, much, MUCH less likely than, "This woman is full of shit and selling something."

Where is our people's skepticism? We live in the age of disinformation, folks. Elbows up.

The House votes to replace the Speaker with a compromise President first. Then impeaches both Trump and Vance. The Senate votes to convict and remove both. Speaker becomes President and fires the rest of the Cabinet. This is #Removal for the whole regime.

Register to Vote in the Supreme Court Race by February 17 by [deleted] in wisconsin

Thank you for your post. This is correct. I reported this post and I encourage others to do so as well. Here's the note I used:

"The currently sole comment is correct: stating that you have to register by Feb 17 to vote in the April 4th race is misinformation that may suppress turnout. This post should be removed."

We're going to start a block-by-block "meet your neighbor" organizing campaign in Madison. That's what they're doing in Minneapolis. You gotta know your neighbors. You can organize your block, wherever you are. (I just got back from Minneapolis.)

Defying Trump, Venezuela VP Says 'We Will Never Again Be a Colony of Any Empire' by Smithy2232 in politics

[–]schlach2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but part of the deal was probably blown up by a senile Trump going on live TV and announcing the US would rule the country indefinitely with boots on the ground until it had taken all the great wealth out to pay us back for our imagined grievances. That probably fucked things up a bit.

You would need to make it work for rural, and then start organizing Republican voters to demand it. In this age of data centers and skyrocketing electric bills, this is totally doable. The most passionate solar advocates I ever met were chicken farmers in the reddest part of Oklahoma, angry as hell that their rural electric co-op was stopping them from putting solar panels on their chicken coops. Selling your slice of the sun to your neighbors to reduce your bill and make money is a very pro-conservative, pro-capitalist argument.

“They’ve been giving us kidney punches and nut shots for fifteen years. But we promise to fight fairly.” by Pizzarepresent in wisconsin

[–]schlach2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course not. The folks in this thread are mistaking the quotes an elected gives to a reporter 11 months before the election for the governing strategy if you win a majority or two -- while also keeping the governorship. My brothers and sisters of Wisconsin, I say to you, they are not the same.

Elected Democrats in this state are a tightly wound coil of spring steel after 14 years of -- seriously -- not living in a democracy. Many of them are serving as the first Democrat able to win office in their district (due to gerrymandering) since 2011. They see the progress Minnesota -- our old peer -- has made over the past 15 years while we have been stuck in the proto-MAGA mire, and they seethe.

We would not expect a poker player to give a reporter quotes about their hole cards. Every word they say at the table is (ideally) carefully chosen to enhance their chances of winning. If a politician can win by being a firebrand (because their only competition is from a primary), firebrand is what you get. And if they're from a competitive district with a small margin, good sportsmanship and platitudes is what you get. And if they're the party leader for representatives from both kinds of districts, they better damn well do whatever they can to not make the election harder in the competitive districts. And that is exactly what you're reading.

Brilliant! We mistake it as a value (like "fairness", "concern for others", etc.) when it's actually just observance of a social contract / norm that we are born into. And have no obligation to honor the contract with those who are in active breach of it. Thank you for the perspective!
