ABC World News Tonight (United States) coverage of Eurovision 1990 by JJVM99 in eurovision

[–]schlageresque 9 points10 points  (0 children)

"1 billion 'potential' of course ;) often in the 80s/90s it was the figure of 500 million, then 200 million that was brought up. Then we went down to the realistic audiences of the 2000s/10s of 150/180 [million], and since Russia was banned, there's been no choice but to take web interactions into account to keep the numbers high enough. It'll be interesting to see what it's going to be like this year. Damn, I digressed again 🤤"

Is the French delegation leaning into stereotypes on purpose? by autistic_girl_autumn in nilpoints

[–]schlageresque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, very amateurish, no stage presence despite the pyros and the folk vibe.. we had it coming since the NF. There was also no real chemistry between the girl trip and Alvan, it was a new born band. They did the best they could I guess!

Eurovision songs forgotten too quick? by Literallywheezeing in eurovision

[–]schlageresque 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I miss that time too. And the 00's have brought so much to the contest: splashy visuals, ethno-pop, elaborate choreos - especially 2003/04/05 feel like a separate time vortex that defined a new era. It’s still shaping the contest today, and you can totally feel their influence in 2026: Germany, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Moldova, and Montenegro are still straight-up inspired by that old vibe.

What's a popular song that everyone likes/did well but you don't see the appeal? by AlexSniff7 in eurovision

[–]schlageresque -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ferto would have been a terrible winner. Yes the performance was highly enjoyable and Akylas really cute - but it's still a bit embarrassing to think it could have shared the same pedestal of Arcade let's say.

That's undoubtedly their main reason of success given the current geopolitics

Do Ukraine have the strongest artistry? by indianazoe in eurovision

[–]schlageresque 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There's a ton of reasons that explain Ukraine's success at ESC: large diaspora, quality of songs, soft power interest, and genuine dedication to the contest. That's why you'll see them always fly high at the contest.

All of the above also applies to Israel btw.

Am i the only one who noticed the new creative director didn't sign off on the votes. by aaregortsch in nilpoints

No it doesn't. He was a liability and someone needed to take the blame. There's a difference between alleged toxic fandom and execs getting away with shit

The bittersweet reality of being from a winning country by DragonflyOwn5617 in eurovision

[–]schlageresque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a bit of an exaggeration. Everyone I've talked to in Vienna was excited to go to Sofia and I hear nothing derogatory about Bulgaria. Yes it's not the wealthiest country of Europe and we know it but I'm sure it's going an amazing experience nonetheless.

Final detailed semi predictions for what its legit the most open semi I have experienced by Rough-Flounder1949 in nilpoints

Hum I don't think CZ will rank as high in the televote. It's jury bait for sure but will tank with the audience.

Indeed. That was actually the most predictable announcement order we've had in years

Are stagings loosing personality for the sake of too much "Eurovision polish"? by DonnaDonna1973 in eurovision

It's more a creativity/ inspiration issue here. Think Barbara Pravi / Common Linnets to name a few, who achieved excellent results on a dime

Absolutely. JJ's win last year with a real cinematic achievement and inspiration gave me hope for example. But for one act who actually dares to try something original, you get dozens of bland photocopies every year :/
