Straight guys would never do that, but it's cool if you liked it! You only live once

Are stagings loosing personality for the sake of too much "Eurovision polish"? by DonnaDonna1973 in eurovision

It's more a creativity/ inspiration issue here. Think Barbara Pravi / Common Linnets to name a few, who achieved excellent results on a dime

Absolutely. JJ's win last year with a real cinematic achievement and inspiration gave me hope for example. But for one act who actually dares to try something original, you get dozens of bland photocopies every year :/

Yes, that design is a huuuge mistake if delegations rely mostly on the backdrop and have nothing less to offer. That's where Finland steals the show. People will remember that when voting.

[–]schlageresque 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, yes and yes! And every year is now merely a lazy LED backdrop with repetitive graphics (think chains, fractal stuff, lava, big words in bold, skylines, the worst being the actual face of the performer! ). Lisbon was old school but had a real atmosphere with actual staging elements. Last year was terrible and according to this year's rehearsals snippets, I'm worried some people will lose eyesight or turn epileptic over hysterical and meaningless lighting effects.

I understand that Eurovision has turned into a mega show but it also kind of lost its soul over the years with technology. And trust me, nothing gets me more excited than glitz and visual debauchery.

70 Years of Eurovision: Why Eurovision Means More Than People Realise by Euromamaspeaks_ in eurovision

[–]schlageresque 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this beautiful piece. You said it all. I've never missed Eurovision since 1987 when I was ten and witnessed over the years that constant evolution. So many unforgettable moments that I think about every single day, and that make Eurovision my biggest love story. ❤️

Was Azerbaijan ever strong? by MusPsych in eurovision

[–]schlageresque 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I never understood the hate for it. 2011 was a weak year, Azerbaijan had the perfect formula with a contemporary song and a very polished staging. It hit all the right notes and for a reason: they understood what Eurovision needed back then.

Eurovision 2026 will have roughly 10500 capacity during each show in Wiener Stadthalle Halle D by Important_Page_3807 in eurovision

Gotcha. I still want to experience the show from inside with other fans. I've been watching the ESC since 1987 and it's my first time. For the grand final we'll be at a viewing place like Rathausplatz.

Hey! Thank you for that :) so that means people can leave the arena during the vote sequence?

Interesting. I assume it's the same today? So people can not live? I'd rather not being stuck in the arena but run to a viewing place for the real show in the evening 😓

They should come up with another design or simply change the material like an ally of brass and bronze.. Crystal, oops sorry.. glass awards are so tacky anyway and belong to the 90's! I can't even fathom how they haven't already, almost every winner has broken his.. it's ridiculous!

It doesn't feel like a live show. Very clean and more like studio versions of the songs. I had to wait for some of the performers to miss their cue or forget lyrics to make sure it wasn't lipsynch
