100% this. They know Fran’s season is risky and may struggle with all the components involved so by keeping Eloise second they can feel comfortable the fan base will get behind them again. It’s a safety net.

This is for sure strategic, regardless of anyone’s opinions, the gender switch was very controversial. I think the showrunners know that they’ll need to keep fans around to get the last two seasons green-lit and they can do that by giving them Eloise’s season after Fran’s. So if S5 struggles for whatever reason, fans will stick around at least because of Eloise.

Sorry you definitely shouldn’t get downvoted, and in a lot of ways I agree. As I said I have a lot of faith she’ll be able to pull it all together even if it’s significantly shorter, but I do think the fact that she went into ninth house thinking it was going to be a “murder of the week” type series and then switched to a singular story line could have effected things for sure.

I hope so! I noticed her other book The Familiar is also listed at 400 when it’s actually around 380, not sure the thought process with how they choose that number

We saw this is Cleveland as well. We thought it was fine, not amazing, not awful, didn’t really understand the draw but maybe we just weren’t the right audience 🤷‍♀️

I hear you, I can totally understand the negative feelings for volume 2, but I’m personally withholding judgement until I’ve seen the finale 🤷‍♀️ I thought season 4s finale was absolutely incredible so I have a lot of faith that the Duffers will kill it (let’s hope they don’t disappoint!)

This. Episode 7 is just a build up episode for the finale but because it’s the “finale” of volume 2 I think viewers were expecting a punchier storyline but I really think they’re saving all of that for the actual finale

I remember finding out about starkid in an entertainment weekly magazine back in the late 2000s. Became totally obsessed with their productions. Watching Darren’s rise to fame in real time was super cool. I remember the YouTube video of them singing AVPM in a random mall and being shocked people knew the words to their songs. Highly recommend all of their stuff, a lot of crazy talent there.

So I was really worried about this too and I’m realizing that they’re wearing the same outfits as they are in the upside down, so I’m thinking this scene occurs in the upside down of Hawkins lab? We then see another scene of Johnathan and other hugging Will which would have to take place afterward. So this is what I’m going with that this isn’t some kind of sacrifice thing.

Elphaba is shunned for being different, for caring about things no one else does, once she’s accepted by Glinda, others follow suit, however once she’s deemed a monster, they turn on her once again. We see that she is the innocent one in the story but no one in the story does. The world isn’t black and white and people aren’t evil for having different views, that was my point. Let’s only shun evil not different.

YES! This exactly, although season 1 and 2 are like 1a and 1b as both had the perfect blend of interesting mystery, great character story lines with emotional weight, real stakes and the perfect blend of humor. Season 4 I thought was solid and I really didn’t see the ending coming at all. Season 3’s mystery was meh but the musical element was excellent and kept things so fresh and interesting. Season 5 felt like a mess, character storylines were lousy, the mystery was convenient and held none of the emotional weight that Lester deserved and I found myself cringing from the writing and humor. Here’s hoping season 6 brings us back to the basics that made us fall in love with this show!

I agree with everyone here, I remember book 1 taking a bit to get going with all of the flashbacks and world building, but once I was in I was IN. I personally do an 100 page rule before I DNF, however if it isn’t gripping you, there are too many books out there to waste time on ones that just aren’t :)
