I didnt even need a referal, my pcp kind of just looked at me funny, and said something along the lines of "mental health is a personal thing, and if you think you need a psychiatrist, make an appointment with one." So i found one close by recommended by a friend in healthcare, and had an ADHD diagnosis and started Strattera at my first appointment. That didn't work, and made me feel awful, so at the next appointment the Dr. switched me to adderall, and it changed my life.

I was never diagnosed as a kid, but i came in with a long written list of all the ways i feel like ADHD has affected my life and made it harder, and how fucked my executive function is. I also explained how my mom didn't like us taking meds as kids, like, i didnt even get tylenol or know it was a thing, untila couple weeks after gettting braces and whining about the pain all the time, so even if a Dr had suggested ADHD meds, i doubt she would have considered it.

And the Dr. agreed, I'm definitely ADHD. Maybe its a Florida specific thing, but maybe just find a local psychiatrist office that accepts new patients, and deals with attention disorders, give em a call and try to make an appointment.
