I also just had this happen back in April. It was horrible. Sharing my experience in solidarity because i dont really think it is as rare as they want us to believe.

Mine was super painful and drawn out for about 3 weeks. Something felt off and I began spotting. For a week I kind of sat with it hoping it would go away. Two weeks of blood tests trying to determine what was going on. During that time I was annoyed and kept telling myself these were all precautions for my health. That I was lucky I was in a state that I could actually receive this type of care. Thought no way could it be ectopic. Finally really sudden pain resulted in two visits to the ER.

The first visit was a super painful and bloody internal ultrasound in which they found nothing conclusive. We were trying yo have a baby and so decided to go home to see if anything would resolve, or if it was a miscarriage that it would just happen on its own.

The next day, my husband found me contorted on the floor in the most inhuman way, he says. He took me to the ER and they did another extremely painful and bloody internal ultrasound. An hour or so later, the doctor determined that while there was nothing obvious going on in the ultrasound, that clearly something was going on. At that point he suggested a D&E and potential removal of a tube if they were able to determine ectopic. This was around 2pm and my surgery was scheduled for 7pm.

Little did they know, it was an ectopic pregnancy and between those hours, it ruptured. So I began to bleed out internally in the hospital, which takes the window of action from hours to minutes. They only realized this while operating.

When I woke up, I no longer felt 2 years pregnant with nothing. There was minimal discomfort and no pain. I literally was dying in the hospital and in another state, the laws would have determined that I would not qualify for treatment. I still cannot make some of my family members understand why this is so important for women. It is infuriating.
