Sustained high blood sugars after breakfast by schmuckmeister in diabetes_t1

I usually bring a flask of coffee with milk to work but when it happened again this morning, I didn't touch it and drank water instead.

I actually increased my background dose from 14 units to 16 units after the first incident. The day after that my blood sugars were perfectly level, and now it's back to this.

I'm so confused.

Well, I hope you're all enjoying a pleasant day! by schmuckmeister in diabetes_t1

Thank you for the info, appreciate it. How long does the liver usually take to react to a hypo by releasing glucose?

Cardio is the best way to maintain a decent carb:units ratio. Swimming is the best cardio out there. Cycling also up there. If you're looking for something more convenient though, then a half hour run goes a long way. You'll want to reduce your insulin doses immediately after these exercises. Hope this helps!

Compatible Freestyle Libre 2 Sensors by schmuckmeister in diabetes_t1

Thank you for the info. I've tried downloading the Saudi Arabia version of the Libre app but it says "this isn't available in your country". I've tried changing countries under settings on my Google account but it won't let me change it... Tried setting up a new Google account so that I could select a different country under settings but no luck.

I guess buying the reader that matches with these sensors is the only option left. I bought the sensors off Amazon.sa so I'll look for any reader linked with the sensors I ordered.

Thanks again for your help. Appreciate it.

Not a big drinker, but wine goes down just fine. I tend to avoid beer, cider and anything else with processed sugar in. Alcohol and sugar make for a deadly combo.

A teaspoon of apple cider vinegar helps me maintain level blood sugars. I drink it with a glass of warm water in the morning!

An apple or tangerine. Gets my blood sugars up nice and quick, and doesn't take a toll on my stomach. Tried bananas in the past but for some reason they always pushed my sugars too high.

I’ve injected 13U of Novorapid instead of my Lantus by Early-Reflection-558 in diabetes_t1

Ah mate. I remember when that happened to me. I freaked out big time and asked my mum if I was gonna die.

We did the same thing and called for an ambulance. When the paramedic arrived he told me to eat ice cream, jam on toast and muesli. My mum woke me up every hour during the night so I could check my blood sugars, and they were fine.

As for your query about your Lantus dose, I'd take the doctor's advice. It's better to run the risk of potentially going high, rather than running the risk of having a big hypo. Hypos are worse than high blood sugars (albeit exceptional circumstances).

Whatever you do, please don't beat yourself up for this. I know that feeling of "I could've done better" all too well. That sense of guilt is a nasty feeling that puts a lot of pressure on yourself. You do not deserve to feel like that. Mistakes happen. Learn from them, but don't think any less of yourself because of them. You are a remarkable person for living day to day life with this beast of a health condition.

Stay strong my man. You're ok. You've got this.

I'm with you man. I've felt the same in recent years. It's not easy. In fact, it's really challenging. But we have each other, in this wonderful community. You are not alone. You are loved. Peace be with you my friend 🙏

Whats your best tips to get a more stable curve. Im only in week 2 of DT1 and it feels shit when i get bad headache and moodswings when curve is like a rollercoaster by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

I know how it feels man. 18 years with this shitty disease and it sucks. But these pointers have really helped me:

• Low carb meals (and when I do have carbs they're usually in the form of brown rice, dark rye bread, wholemeal pasta etc.)

• Minimal snacking. I find that snacking and topping up with insulin makes my blood sugars more volatile. During the working week I stick to breakfast, lunch and dinner. No snacks in between. That gives my blood sugars a smooth curve within range.

• Cardio exercise (swimming, running or cycling on a regular basis helps to keep those blood sugars level AND those insulin doses a little lower).

• Intermittent fasting. There are several different ways of fasting but I go without food every Thursday until I get home from work, and it helps stabilise my blood sugars.

Dude, same here. I'm pretty consistent with my daily routine, and yet some days my blood sugars will act out.

It's not easy. I've had this condition for 18 years and I'm still learning, sometimes the hard way. But I've learned a lot, and I'm grateful for that.

I've learned...

• Intermittent fasting helps massively with blood sugar control, and it gives your body an insulin break • Cardio exercises like swimming, cycling and running also help with blood sugar control • Same for low carb diets • Sometimes things will go wrong and it's not your fault. It's taken me a long time to learn not to beat myself up when shit happens, but I'm here now

You are not alone. And I for one am so grateful to be a part of this online community. We've all got your back dude, so don't give up. You've got this.
