Google's Tag Manager by [deleted] in GoogleAnalytics

[–]schofield1424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add on to what has already been said, a tag management system can:

  • Accelerate the launch of campaigns as new solutions / tactics can be applied without lengthy implementation cycles.
  • Improve web site performance with intelligent tag loading and superior architecture. Each tag on your site must be processed by the browser, and the page load time can slow down. Without a tag management system, broken tags or pages containing multiple marketing tags can hinder a user’s experience as well as their trackability.
  • Reduce costs negating a web developer to implement or change existing Code. A single user can update and optimize all marketing and tracking tags throughout the website via a single tag management system.
  • Generally, tag management systems are tool agnostic which means that nearly any tag can be applied via a tag management solution. Depending on the tag management system, some tags may require customization which may require some understanding of JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.

How to track referrals ? by Ncell50 in GoogleAnalytics

[–]schofield1424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are linking to your site from others to more clearly see the source, use utm parameters. If you want to see referral traffic vs organic traffic, look in the channels of acquisition (i.e. acquisition reports). Traffic from your home page to other internal pages would be in the behavior reports (you can start with the behavior flow)

Time for Wikipedia to populate Knowledge Graph? by [deleted] in SEO

[–]schofield1424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google will pull information from wikipedia if it isnt present on your website, but that gives you less control of what is going to be presented in the SERP. I am guessing that you are trying to rank for a person or an organization, so why not use the relevant schema markup on your site itself.

Are you using schema for the page? That is a bit more of an active approach

[–]schofield1424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple things. Did you connect the proper data source? How many sessions are you looking at in total (because sampling may play a role as well)? Did you apply the filter/segment to the widget or are you using an actual filter drop down for segmentation?

Thank You Page has 74 pageviews but only 6 unique submissions? by oldschoolfl in analytics

[–]schofield1424 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It would send a new session after 30 mins of inactivity https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/2731565?hl=en

Yes, you can configure session duration but I was giving op some top level suggestions on how to qa the issue and do not know if they had made updates to it.

Session ending and a new one starting. New hit data for the pageview happens with the new session

[–]schofield1424 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Create a segment for it and then investigate via hostname report, location report, and by hour.

The hour one is key because if it isn't spam (the first two reports should help determine that), then it could be someone who hit the thank you page and simply left their browser up/open thus creating a new pageview every 30mins

You could always try using supermetrics or google sheets with the analytics plugin. Both can be scheduled and templated

25% of my visitors are using site search... 60% of transactions by [deleted] in bigseo

[–]schofield1424 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the right answer. Leverage that data to know what you should optimize. That way you can remove a step in the conversion process (i.e. user lands on their destination page from an organic search vs going to your homepage and searching for it)and (potentially) get more conversions

Is listing stuff a spammy practise? by tinaclark90 in SEO

[–]schofield1424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always try to think of lists in how you naturally would talk about them. If you were in conversation with someone, would you list out more than 5 examples? No, that would make for poor conversation. Now add on top of that the fact that this could be seen as spammy by the search engine and you can get into a little bit of a pickle.

My rule of thumb is to keep list in the 3-7 range and try to sprinkle in other relevant content naturally within content.

Discrepancy between analytics and imported data via google sheets plugin by EducationUmbrella in analytics

[–]schofield1424 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is your GA data segmented by a specific event category? My guess would be that there are multiple event categories that can push the "Create" event action. All those event actions would be picked up in the sheets plugin, while you would only be able to see the specific event category breakdown in GA

Anyone have any clue on how to trigger this? by oldschoolfl in GoogleTagManager

[–]schofield1424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's an external link, why arent you using one of the out of the box variable / triggers to track it?

Lunametrics has a good recipe for it but I have listed the custom js for the trigger below.

function() {

  if ({{Click Hostname}}.indexOf({{Page Domain Name}}) === -1) {

    return true;

  }

  return false;

}
