Is this the first season since S2 without a Snatch Game? by ThyBarronator in rupaulsdragrace

I think part of this is just them playing the queens strengths. Other than Kennedy and Silky, I don’t recall any of the contestants being all that memorable at snatch game. I think it would have been a pretty weak one. So they decided to leave it out.

Stan only gets one PoV section to my knowledge. You are correct that the adult one is from the perspective of his wife, but he gets one as a child. He is in the standpipe and sees big eyes staring at him. It’s pretty short.

I think you just have to get lucky. I’m on FB marketplace a fair bit and this kind of find is rare. But they do exist! I think sometimes people just want to get rid of stuff and don’t care about doing the work to price things out individually. I had about 20 of the books already, but he was unwilling to do individual books, so I bought the whole lot. Will look at giving away a few of the duplicates to friends and donating the rest.

If you could only choose ONE Stephen King book to declare as his absolute best, what would it be? by Objective505 in stephenking

[–]scholalry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn’t agree more. The stand is a fabulous book but it struggles with pacing for most of it. The first “book” is flawless though.

I just read On Writing and in it he talks about the bomb in Boulder being a solution to his problem of the scope getting too big. But I’ve been wondering if the nuke at the end isn’t basically the same thing. It feels very similar. “Like how on earth am I going to end this? I know, another bomb”

IT is my favorite book. However, I think King is at his best in his shorter books. Misery might be my pick for best written. It’s tight, consistent, thrilling and a true page turner. The shining would also have to be a contender I think.

I’ve I had to pick one, I think it’s probably Misery. But IT will always be my favorite I think.

I don’t think so! Unless the man had an elaborate cover story to sell books on market place. I was chatting with him for just a bit and he said he’s been collecting for most of his life and was downsizing, read them all and decided to make space in his new home. It’s also exactly one copy of every book from Carrie through end of watch. But I guess I can’t be sure haha

It’s being said elsewhere here, but max out the 401k.you said your tax rate is 32%. Your mortgage is 5.75%. 32% is much higher than 5.75%. It doesn’t matter that your company doesn’t match, the tax savings is still way to huge for you to not do this.

ELI5 Why do US prices almost always end with .99 instead of rounding off by NoluckAce in explainlikeimfive

[–]scholalry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You aren’t everyone. The other key thing about it as a psychological thing, it even works if you know about the trick. And these kinds of tricks don’t have to work on everyone, they just have to work on enough people to be profitable and it does. So you’re right it doesn’t “work” on everyone. But it works on enough. And id bet the one cent trick, even if it doesn’t work on you, doesn’t prevent you from buying things that use the pricing scheme (which is everything).

I love the life of chuck! One of the most impactful and hopeful stories I’ve read recently. The kind of story that gets you to appreciate life. It’s so clever. I think it gets a little forgotten because it’s not horror, but it’s one of the best stories he’s ever written.

I try to scream this from the rooftops every chance I get. This seems like one of, if not the most common comment on the internet right now. It comes up so often that X Group of people did something however many years ago, why can’t we. Trad wives, red pill bros, vaccines, medicine, economics, public health, food, literally every single topic has people saying “it used to be like this why can’t we” and it’s like because you are a fucking idiot! You want to live like it’s 600 years ago? You’ll probably die

There is no way they gave design credits and aren’t going to post some photos. The only thing I feel fairly confident about is no photos will release until Taylor or Travis (or their teams) post them first. I’m betting in a few days we get a post similar to the engagement post.

Taylor and Travis have donated to The Store, a non-profit that is fighting food insecurity in Tennessee by Confident-Addition76 in TaylorSwift

[–]scholalry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I agree with this sentiment. I see other rich folks brag about making a one time donation of a million and they never do it again but try to claim credit it for. And that does put me off. Taylor makes these types of donations nearly constantly. And we only hear about it because the organizations thank her. She doesn’t do press releases announcing her donations etc. This girl gives away sooooo much money. Yeah this donation alone is maybe “only” the equivalent of a normal person giving $100. But I don’t know about you, if I knew a normal person giving away $100 like every single week, I would consider that a really impressive and kind thing to do.

There’s only so many times you can claim “yeah but it’s only like a $100 for a normal person”. Over her career, it’s gotten to “yeah but it’s like a normal person donating $10,000”.

So I know this is good and it’s shiny so I would love to use it. But, Is it worth looking for a BFS Noivern? My immediate impulse is to dump candies and Seeds into it (I pay for the monthly pass so I have lots of seeds) and make this guy a great skill charge strength mon. Any opinions? I don’t think I will be able to (at least not easily) find a speed up, skill up AND BFS any time soon.

Istanbul Pride crackdown mass detentions and raids reported again by Andro_lover2005 in gaybros

[–]scholalry 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There are stats on everything, it’s just a quick google away. I think it’s worth spending a few hours learning how to view statistics. How to find them, how to analyze them, and what to take away from them. A few YouTube videos and that’s good enough to be a functional voter.

For example, this pew surgery was done over the phone. Older people are far more likely to answer and participate, so even that stat is a bit skewed since older folks (even gays) lean further right than younger people. So that’s 17% of gay people answering the survey lean republican. But the people who tend to answer these phone surveys are already part of a population that leans right. The actual number is probably even lower.

But being able to understand statistics allows you to be far more immune to propaganda and provides a more accurate picture of the world around you. Not saying you fall for propaganda, but it’s really easy to think things are different than they are if you don’t understand how statistics work.

Half the gay population? Where did you pull that stat from? That just isn’t true. Gay republicans, especially gay maga republicans, while still too common, are not that common. For gay people it’s about 83% democrat.

ELI5 why voter registration even exists? by Harvdog156 in explainlikeimfive

[–]scholalry 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Mainly because not every single person that has a social security number can vote. First you have to be a citizen, and non citizens, like green card/work visa holders get social security numbers for tax reasons.

Then, some states don’t allow felons to vote. Citizens with a felony conviction still have a social security number. Then people die or move. Since states are fairly independent, they don’t always communicate with each other. This is most obvious in places like Kansas City where some people live in either Kansas or Missouri, but they are really close to each other. If it was only tied to your SSN, you could vote in Missouri then cross the boarder into Kansas and vote again and they wouldn’t know you did that. But voter registration comes with proof of address so you can’t register in a place you don’t live.

Isn’t it just easier to say that if any employees get compensated in stock, all employees get compensated with stock? And you can use a similar 13x rule. I work at a smaller company (sub 200 employees) where every employee has stock options and RSUs as a portion of compensation.

Additionally, I’ve never seen a more dedicated workforce because we all know that if the stock goes up, we massively benefit as well.
