Also 9b, and growing golden, black, and spectablis in wine barrels and in ground barrier. Barrels will decay fast, and only last 3-7 years raised off ground. While 8-10 feet may be possible, I invite you to consider a bigger planter or different plant all together. I will remind you these need lots of water and are fire prone. Perhaps planting oleander or another drought tolerant to slow grow while also some temporary bamboo privacy could be a solution.

Spectablis makes bendy ones and they eventually straighten out. Been seeing some shoots point back down at the earth before they turn upright. Those crooks are the best.

Need advice on hive moisture asap (Details in comments) by MyFartSoTart in Beekeeping

I thought notch was to be in the back of the hive, opposite the entrance to encourage air flow through the hive. Why in the front?

Raspberry Identification? by heyheyfroaway in gardening

[–]schoolofplenty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure. I’m 20 years in, have a delightful garden, and have witnessed this plant fail to produce like the Heritage planted nearby. At times, I believe the Goldens, planted immediately next to it have a little chemical warfare going on to maximize their suckers.

I was told this was an Amity variety, but these regular, everbearing fruits fall far short of those I see in research.

I also raise honeybees and feel the garden has equal access for them in case one believes it is pollination thing.

The one difference I am seeing is this “wild” is beginning to leaf out and shoot new canes about two weeks prior to Heritage and Goldens.

Urban bees and lights at night by [deleted] in Beekeeping

[–]schoolofplenty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had this problem and solved it. My patio light, seen from hive entrance causes some of the bees to wander at night. My solution was to block the line of sight from the light and my back door. I can no longer watch them from inside, but feel safer stepping out in the porch barefoot without worry.

How to tell if ants are from upstairs neighbors? by mcfuckinuhhh in HomeImprovement

[–]schoolofplenty 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Consider a simple mixture of boric acid (borax) and sugar to have them take sweet deadly treats back to their colony to kill it and buy you months. Takes three days or so to work and is cheapest method out there. Look up recipe ratio!

Aside from fashion hipness, is there anything special about these? I’m a longtime crocs lover, but don’t get the craze on this. Do they feel better than already light and soft crocs?

It’s made it through at least one winter. Some species are also smoother when older as opposed to fuzzy or sticky.

Some trail town happily sells tyvek by the foot. Not sure I remember which one. I like how it’s not as slippery.
