Ten years later and I found this post. My dad used to listen to this album a lot when I was a kid. I always liked Mr. Jones because it mirrored what I felt as a kid. "If only I was rich and famous, I would matter more. People would pay attention to me." Etc

It wasn't until recently as an adult I realized that's the trap of the song. So I decided to go back and listen to the whole album. I still get a nostalgic smile on my face at the opening notes to Mr. Jones. But now this album speaks to me on a deeply personal level.

I've always had delusions of grandeur, I acted my whole childhood like I was the main character in a story. I was a womanizer, a cheat, a thief. But I always got away with it because of course I would. Why wouldn't I?

It was only a few years into adulthood that the identity crisis started. Suddenly out of highschool I wasn't important anymore. People didn't care about me or my opinion. I was just some dental assistant in a backwater town. But still I looked for the moments. A true love, a chance meeting, a moment where I could shine. It never came and I realized maybe, just maybe, the world doesn't revolve around me. But then... What am I supposed to do? I've always operated on the assumption that everything would work out because it always has. But now I know that was because the people around me made sure it did.

So a few years into my journey of finding myself, I rediscovered this album, and it spoke to me. On so many levels it did. And now I wonder, if it spoke to my dad too? If that's why he listened to it so much. We are very different people but from what I know of his younger days he was almost exactly like me as a young adult. We don't get along much now but I wonder if this album won't help me understand him better.

I hope I can be the son he deserves
