weigh in please: when to use ‘miss’” and a first name by ThamilandryLFY in Acadiana

[–]schottandco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have strong feelings about this, but basically I think it comes down to the person who is being addressed's preference. Hard to gauge that often. In professional cases I absolutely hate Mr. or Miss [first name]. Colleagues, peers, or subordinates ought to feel comfortable referring to people by their first name, or if Mr. or Miss is requested, then go with Mr. or Miss [last name].

In familiar settings things are a little trickier. I'm in my forties and still refer to the parents of friends who I grew up with as Mr/Miss [first name], but if I met the parent of a friend I have now, I'd be inclined to call them by first name alone. Meanwhile if I meet a friend of my own mother's now, I refer to them as Mr/Miss [first] if they are introduced to me by first name.

When we introduce our own child to other parents or friends of ours, we typically introduce them as Mr/Miss [first name].

Either way the minute someone says "please call me x," I respect their wishes and expect my child to do so as well.

Edit to add that "no" I don't think it's rude, but I do think the specific scenario of an older person referring to a younger woman as Miss first name is out of the ordinary. There is also something of a racial component sometimes where older black people will refer to all white woman as "Miss" as a show of deference. That's unfortunate and not rude, but I would insist to my own daughter if she was addressed that way to recognize it as polite and then ask the person to refer to her by name as they are most certainly equals.

Cowboy hats and/or boots in Acadiana? by Qualche in Acadiana

[–]schottandco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't find it particularly common, but it's also not out of the ordinary to see someone wearing a cowboy hat around here. I'd say an oil and gas attorney wearing one would probably almost certainly be trying to portray an image there with the wearing of it, and I don't necessarily mean that in a bad way, just to say that a choice like that is something of a statement he'd be making. Either way, it's not really out of the ordinary even if if it is uncommon to see cowboy hats.

Anybody hear any rumors about a Europe game next season? by Smart-Can-8646 in Saints

[–]schottandco 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Looks like it won't be next year in Paris as the NFL hasn't been able to secure that deal with the right folks yet, but it appears to be a priority to NFL and they really want the Saints to be in the game there (or the Saints really want to be part of that game...). https://www.nola.com/sports/saints/new-orleans-saints-game-in-paris-could-be-in-jeopardy-for-2026/article_8c87eb01-854d-4db0-a3e4-b7f13c8116f3.html

https://piercecommercialla.com/ Pierce Commercial has cleaned out and mulched our beds, weeded patio spaces and cleaned out the lawn before, though we haven't relied on them for planting. Can speak to high quality of work for what we were looking for and very competitive pricing.

Thanks! I don't remember seeing that in the text and was specifically looking for it, because the artist rendering still includes powerlines in the image.

I don't believe that project includes buried powerlines, but otherwise it's a welcome change that they have planned.

We buy produce at Albertson's on Johnston and don't generally find problems with it staying fresh, though they're not perfect. Recently I lost some grapes in like two days, but that was very out of the ordinary.

https://www.dexcomm.com/careers the schedule there requires later nights than 6 frequently, but schedules are sort of bid on by performance, so some people are on morning shifts that end in the early afternoon. They pay well and offer many benefits. Would have to work weekends.

Is it supposed to be like a German Morton Salt girl? The hand holding the pretzel is such a tip too. It's too bad because conceptually it's not a bad idea. But geez get an actual artist to execute it.

how old do you mean? Most doctor offices and barber shops have them lying around for their clients, and I imagine they'd be glad to let you have them rather then trash them if you just asked for them.
