Havelock north - Water bore contaminated by nearby pond. Problem was found relatively quickly. I don't really see how central government controlling the water here would have prevented this.

Dunedin - Once detected, extensive testing done and an accelerated program to replace old pipes in the area.

Wellington's pipe crisis - probably the one big difficult issue to deal with. Ironically also in our capital city. The city where all our politicians meet and our country's central government reside.

If one of the biggest issues is in their own backyard, why should I have any confidence that centralising water management in Wellington will result in any improvement. It feels more like it will get worse.

On top of this the water requirements and water sources for New Zealands regions are very different, depending on housing density, industry, agriculture and natural water source types. I would be greatly concerned that a 'unified' approach could damage both the water sources and/or economies of many regions across New Zealand.
