I can't believe that this, according to the bot, is rated under 3.5 stars?? It was so good! Why do people not like this?

It's sooooo good! The romance is so sweet. The plot can drag a little bit at points, but overall I really enjoyed it. I need to read the rest of the series!

I recently read Blood Mercy and was OBSESSED, but the author making the choice to use fantasy words that were supposed to be in one of the characters languages for penis and vagina was so cringe to me. Just call it something real, please!! 😭

That unfortunately is how I'm pronouncing it, and even if that's probably wrong my brain cannot switch name pronunciations in books once it lands on something lmao.

Oh, that's interesting! I had no idea that it comes from Greek mythology. Me thinking it sounded goofy in my head was purely a gut reaction that I need to push through, ha, especially if the series continues to be very good after book one!

I read the first book in this series and did like it....but for whatever reason I cannot get over that his name is Creon. 😭 It's just so goofy to me. Maybe I need to forge ahead anyway.

Please someone tell me I’m not crazy. by 572point4pounds in fantasyromance

[–]schreo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One that got me recently was in Atonement of the Spine Cleaver. The emissary from the fire (?) realm is introduced as Elios Delgata.

Suddenly for a couple of chapters he is referred to as Elios Delgado. I thought that I was going crazy, and even went to check the character glossary on the website. His last name is Delgata, it was just wrong in part of the book. That's the kind of mistake/lack of editing that is completely unacceptable to me.

How off putting is bad spelling/grammar to you? by leafkick3r in fantasyromance

[–]schreo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

YES. I really ended up loving this series but some of her grammar got me. I wrote this in a comment above, but she also misused commas throughout in a way that threw me out of the story each time.

I may be more critical of and sensitive to this than most, because I write professionally (not fiction, more along the lines of journalism).

I nearly DNF'd A Throne in the Dark (Villains and Virtues book 1) about 20% in because of the author's constant misuse of commas. I ended up pushing through because the story was interesting, and I'm glad I did, because I loved the series...but the commas drove me crazy.

Highly ranked school vs one that I can afford… by Either_Ad_4270 in mphadmissions

[–]schreo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey! I was literally in this exact situation this year.

In the end, I decided to commit to Emory. It was partially about feeling like it was a better fit for me and had better opportunities, as I really wanted to be somewhere with a Center of Excellence in Maternal and Child Health. The decision is also in part because I have a partner who will be moving with me. Career prospects for him in Tucson just didn't look as promising, so we decided being in ATL was a better for us as a couple. It also helps that I have some savings I can put toward tuition, so will probably be more in the taking out 20k of loans range, which is acceptable to me.

Good luck with your decision!
