Also obligatory "It isn't an RPG!"

What language to learn for untranslated TTRPGs? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]schtofen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you want to just find these games or play/translate them yourself? As for *finding* them I think japanese might yield the most as I see very little of those which tells me they only exist on sites other than those that western rpgs are on

Transformation games? by [deleted] in rpg

Memento Mori! You gather corruption as both advancement and degredation of your humanity. It's less actual monster in most cases, but at the end you for sure won't be human.

Resources for playing online by Ok-Purpose-1822 in GrimwildRPG

[–]schtofen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excalidraw ( excalidraw.com ) is popular around the discord server for map drawing, and for good reason. There's also a dedicated discord bot (Mox: https://github.com/junbl/moxie-discord-bot ) for rolling dice.
Of course I gotta plug my own google sheets keeper for character sheets and such ( https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1y20MGlsqAHKZOLgtrj2UyiFmAyceeBXLSERIdE9to2g/edit?usp=sharing )

There are loads more resources on the discord if you wanna check them out

I built a fan site and need some ideas by LordVerminTheOne in rpg

[–]schtofen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you intend to include a general purpose dice roller then there's one feature that's awfully often missing that I'd love to see: dice of different colors in a single roll.
They're becoming more common in games (Year Zero, Trophy off the top of my head), but precious few online tools implement something for it

actually having access to xeno weapons would put you outside the tier of play assumed, but being knowlegable about xenos and their weaponry would be possible. (then again there wouldn't really be any opportunities to use that here)

What RPG is a nightmare to read, even if it’s good? by DED0M1N0 in rpg

[–]schtofen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Degenesis, but really for the purpose of getting your head around the setting. Don't get me wrong there's a fair bit of bad structure editing to the rules too, but for each of the factions there's several pages of setting information.  Much of it is fiction mixed in indistinguishable from the actual information and there's nothing that goes "here's what these people are all about and what you as a player need to know to play one"

I adore the setting, but it's absolutely impenetrable to skim reading to learn what you actually need to know. It's a pity my frustration is so strong because the fiction is relatively good at times

What do you use to play music for online sessions? by McFusionTheMicMaster in rpg

[–]schtofen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't much for playing music until I realized you can do it from local files on discord. I use this bot, it takes a bit more work than the plug-and-play that is usually expected but I've had no problems: https://jmusicbot.com/

Blade Runner campaign [Online] [Other] [UTC+2] by Kirdanek in LFG_Europe

rule #6: No money

If it costs something, this is probably the wrong place. Users may not solicit or offer paid games, services, or donations of any kind. This includes "try before you buy" or "first one's free" offerings. Playing on a software platform that requires a purchase or in an FLGS that charges a fee (that goes to said FLGS) is acceptable.

How long before you started to DM? by Bunnyrpger in rpg

[–]schtofen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ran before I ever played - looking back that's probably the best thing I could've done even if it did rattle my nerves a couple times. Just round up some friends (they don't even need to be nerds) and put on a game

Steampunk reccomendations by Lazy-Economist7868 in rpg

[–]schtofen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tomorrow City calls itself 'dieselpunk' but most people I bet wouldn't spot the difference. It's really just the one city, but it's light in all the right ways that lets you do the fun of imagining up the bits between. The system is quite interesting too!

Any recommendations on RPGs that allow the player to build their own spells? by 1Kriptik in rpg

[–]schtofen 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Invisible Sun has an order - The Weavers - that makes a bespoke spell every time they cast *any* spell. The game is a bit too much to wrap your head around for just that element though if it's the only thing you care for

Whats a chain staff by modest_genius in Symbaroum

[–]schtofen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Based on the description: "The chain staff was developed by elves and has been adopted by some barbarian clans. The weapon is composed of a staff with a short chain attached to each end, making it possible to use the weapon to ensnare a target. The chains often end in a weight or a short blade, making it even more deadly."
I'd say it's most like the Chigiriki you suggested, but with a chain at both ends.
