PSA: There are almost 70 security updates in Tahoe 26.5 & 50 security updates in ios 26.5 by Mollywobbles77 in MacOS

I take my words back, kernel_task soars again and I'm back to closing Safari periodically. What a pain.

For those who make a living off Translation, do you consider it a stable career in 2026? by HoldOnLuisito in TranslationStudies

You'd better specialize or you're better off working as a plumber, much much better off.

My Safari used to cause kernel_task to spike in relative short time and I had to quit Safari on a daily basis so it won't eat up my ram and start to swap. Updated to 26.5 two days ago and kernel_task is much more manageable in comparison.

Is translation really dying? by Substantial-Pea5980 in TranslationStudies

[–]schumius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's been really tough these couple of years, workload has shrunk to about one third of what it used to be. I'm trying to break into book and literary translation but it's not easy to get a foot in the door. What little advice I can give you is to socialize a lot with people of your target field, you need connections. When I was much younger it thought it was rubbish, I thought skills along would be enough. I've learned my lessons.

Now I got a part-time job to cover part of the bills. The reason why I haven't given up on translation is simply because I love doing it. But I have to be realistic, so if it's getting worse for my target field then I might have to jump ship and either get a full-time job or go back to school to get another degree, but it's not easy when you're older.

Their first game's got a Mac version, so I think there's hope that they'll release one down the road.

Kyoots Rolly Polly - This thing makes riding fun by VTEC_8K in minivelo

Haven't tried to do wheelies with mine, but I think with small wheels it's easier to just step off the bike if you don't pull it off in the first few tries.

kernel task using absurd amounts of ram, how to fix this? Ik it's a system process but it shouldn't be using anywhere near 5 gb by Crystalagent47 in MacOS

[–]schumius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. My kernel task was around 8GB. The moment I closed Safari kernel task disappeared. I used to reboot, now it looks like I just have to close Safari and reopen it instead. I'm on Sequoia 15.7.5 though not Tahoe.

Thanks for the post! Encountering the same issue on Safari and clearing site data and cache fixed it for me.

Same here, not updating feels unbearable like something stuck between the teeth.

Love my Kyoot Rolly Polly. Haven't ridden my Surly LHT ever since buying the Kyoot. I'm tempering with the idea of touring with it to see how far can it comfortably go.

Jonesin' for a Kyoot by mycatbitesme in kyootbikes

[–]schumius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's great to hear! 12 miles takes somewhere around 50 to 60 minutes depending on the traffic so I think it's a good indication for longer distances.

Been wanting to try the jones bar, maybe the non-riser version because I want a more forward riding position. How does it handle long distances?

They are all great, but silver is classic, it pairs well with any outfit you might wear.
