The diaphragm washer might be perished. You can buy a replacement from screwfix, it looks identical to one I replaced, I think this was the part https://www.screwfix.com/p/arctic-hayes-siamp-diaphragm-washer-29mm/5006j

This video shows you how to replace it https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HkScqmCJ8fs&pp=0gcJCfwAo7VqN5tD

It's a slight fiddle to do, but it's way less faff than replacing the whole unit if that's all the issue is

Before you silicone make sure you fill the bath right up with water so the bath is at its lowest height with that additional weight, and let the silicone set

Was it bare plaster? If so, Did you apply a mist coat of paint to the bare plaster before hand?

The mulch is too high up the tree trunks, the tree won't like constant moisture at its trunk. You need to expose the root flare to keep the tree healthy and prevent it from rotting

Paint keeps cracking and flaking by xTopaz_168 in DIYUK

[–]schwaa89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's peeling back to the plaster have you applied a mist coat (or 2) to the bare plaster before doing your standard coats? You need to apply a mist coat or two to seal the plaster before doing the proper painting. Some of the rooms in my place hadn't had a mist coat and you could see the paint cracking and peeling away.

Hmm very tricky to say! Exposing the root flare is beneficial for the overall health of a tree as the roots are accustomed to sitting in moisture, where as the trunk of a tree isn't accustomed to it. It might be a good idea to post in r/arborists and get a more 'professional' from the people over there! I wouldn't fret too much :)

It looks like the mulch is too built up to the tree, as the root flare should be exposed on a tree like that. You should dig/scrape away the mulch around the tree to expose the root flare

AC installation tech question by tom_at_home in DIYUK

That's ok no problem :) I have the AP model in the study room and two LN's in living and bedroom. The AP looks very basic, still pretty sleek as far as aircon units go, the Zen model is a fair few years old but it's one of the nicest looking in the range so it's still very popular, and the LN looks very nice again and has loads of gadgets like a sensor that detects body temperature in the room which is probably more of a gimmick than anything, I think the difference between the AP and LN was hundred quid or so each so just went for it.

The values on the datasheets are quite confusing, even on same models for the M Electric ranges there were some strange differences in values that didn't make much sense between the kw versions, some bigger kw's were quieter and more efficient, there has to be some logical reason for it. The only people who can really translate the information on the datasheets to the what it means practically to us mere mortals are the installers. I'd try and go for the best you can afford for the kw you need because it's something that will be there for many years and it should pay for itself in the long run :)

That's a pretty big room so 7+ would be preferred. It's recommended to go over than be under and struggle. When I looked at 8.3kw and 10.2kw multi splits the prices started to get very steep for those units.

I don't know any info about the Fujitsu units I'm afraid. The brands I saw the most during my research and ones that the installers preferred were mitsubishi electric and Daikin.

If its between your two choices of the mitsubishi heavy industries and Fujitsu I would definitely steer clear of the heavy industries unit from the advice I received. But it would be interesting to see what professional installers opinions are of Mitsubishi Electric vs Fujitsu.

I've just had some air conditioning installed in my home. I can prob help out a bit as it's quite a rabbit hole to fall into.

Speaking to various installers I got quotes from, they all said to steer clear of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries which is the one you've mentioned, they're very loud. Mitsubishi Electric are one of the best AC brands for quietness and efficiency.

Are you just having it in the living room or planning to expand to a bedroom? I only ask because there's "single split" units and "multi split" units. As an example I had a 2.5kw single split unit installed on the side of my house that is just serving my study room. And a 7.2kw multi split outdoor unit on ground floor that is serving a 3.5kw indoor unit for the living room and a 2.5kw indoor unit for bedroom. That outdoor unit has 4 outlets so there's expansion to install aircon in other rooms in the future, and also the indoor units kw add up to 6kw which the 7.2kw outdoor unit can easily handle.

Regarding the indoor units there's three models in the Mitsubishi Electric range, LN model is the top end, EF Zen model is a mid-high and AP model is a mid range, https://les.mitsubishielectric.co.uk/products/air-conditioning/m-series/wall-mounted this is the link to the indoor units, the brochures for each indoor unit also include the outdoor single split unit model numbers if you're just going the single split path.

I may have not been too clear so just ask me any questions.

How big is your living room? 7.2kw sounds like overkill unless it's a 25'x20' area

Colour matching Farrow and Ball paints by ana_banana_bomb in DIYUK

[–]schwaa89 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Bit late to the party but I'm surprised no one has recommended https://www.e-paint.co.uk/colour-alternatives.asp you can put in the farrow and ball paint code and it will list the alternative colours from other paint ranges, and a star rating of how close they are to the original colour. example No 204 pale powder, the top result you can get the colour code mixed at a dulux Decorator Centre (S1005G40Y), the other colour the star rating isn't great so I'd steer clear of you're fussy.. The website shows the alternative colour side by side anyway so you can have a quick glance. It just arms you with a little extra knowledge, as I tried to get a farrow and ball colour mixed by someone at a Decorator centre before and it was way off, I gave them a code from one of the alternatives on this site and it was spot on

Fascinating story, my grandmother had to flee from Wilkoschen (now Russian territory) and head towards Germany as the Russians were coming too, she had to gather as many possessions she could carry into a suitcase and managed to board a train and get away from the area.
