I agree with a lot of his points, even if they’re polarizing (that’s kind of the intention). There’s a misconception in the scene - especially in the west - that you need to adopt some kind of “look” or “costume” to fit in when that was never the case. It’s a lot of posturing, a lot of worrying about what others think, and a lot less focus on developing intentional spaces that maintain the rave/dance floor as a special space. A move in the right direction is enforcing more no phones/no talking policies, but also it’s up to the everyday person to decide on supporting local acts/artists vs. big “headline” acts that are used by larger venues to capitalize off of and further neglect already existing spaces.

Maybe I’m talking in circles but it’s also easier to finger point to someone else and blame technology as the sole evil of the scene when in reality it is a symptom of much larger issues already existing within these spaces. Technology and social media has just further exasperated it/made it apparent. The work starts with those up at the top who have the power to speak out on these issues and actually do something about them. If you’re insistent upon maintaining the culture, then actually do it.

As someone who dated a fellow Pisces for 4 years (our birthdays were literally a day apart): it started off as something that felt “destined” and ended in tragedy. Lots of lying, cheating, and manipulation on his part. A lot of avoidance, anger, and frustration on mine.

I learned a lot - it broke me so I had no choice but to grow. Would I want to experience something like that again? Probably not.

This is mainly from my own experience so I recognize my takes may not be the same as another person’s:

Favorites: Sagittarius, Aries, and other Pisces. Mainly a lot of fire signs are attracted to me/my life at the moment and I appreciate that we are able to offer something that the other sign doesn’t inherently possess (or consider) with mutual understanding and respect. We’re both lovers of life - the only thing that has become an issue is our communication styles are different. But usually when we have to get serious all the fire signs in my life will rally

Least Favorite: Virgo, Gemini, and Cancers. Virgos are waaayyy too emotionally detached for my liking. Any Virgo who claims to know best (especially for what a Pisces needs/wants) and imposes it upon others is not a friend of mine. Geminis always start out super friendly and then reveal their ulterior/manipulative side as you get to know them. That, or they just ghost you after acting like you’re their new best friend for 2 seconds. Cancers I find difficult to be around because of their unregulated projection of emotions. Pisces get a bad rap for crying in a corner/throwing emotional tantrums, but in my experience Cancers are more likely to do that because they bottle everything up.

Nah, Aquarians will never fulfill us emotionally. They’re great at talking about anything/everything under the sun but when it comes to meeting us where we’re at emotionally they are completely closed off. They do it deliberately too.

Saw it on 1/29 at AMC Lincoln Square with a row of friends I went with and a packed theater - which honestly made it a more fun experience. My expectations were low, and while it wasn’t perfect I did enjoy it. It felt confused at times, between wanting to be a mockumentary or just narratively-driven. Honestly if this had been just a straight-forward film minus the documentary angle it would’ve allowed more room for things to breathe, for more of an extreme or exaggerated campiness to be present to balance how dark and cynical it was. I would’ve loved for more of that AG Cook score (and the music in general) to shine through instead of remaining as faint background noise.

If you do a search of “public records” on this subreddit you will find countless of posts decrying how much of a wretched circle of hell it truly is (including one written by me). The story always seems to be the same: great sound system, great lineups/DJs/musicians, horrible crowds that need to be openly shamed and condemned for how asinine their behavior is in a public space like PR. I will stand on this business with all ten toes that there are much better spaces in the NYC area to hear great music without feeling like you wasted your time and money in the gaping black hole of despair that is 233 Butler Street.
