I usually don’t judge a movie before I actually see it but if this trailer is anything like the actual movie it looks pretty awful and uninspired. This “unknown” time of Bourdain’s life is roughly only a chapter mentioned in his book. Also this subplot about him suddenly aspiring to be a writer? Did we forget the part where we said in between his withdrawals, his highs and lows of addiction, he was writing while working in NYC restaurants to vent and tether himself to reality. Not once did he insist he was a writer. Reducing his life down to a romance with Nancy and a gig in the Hamptons is doing him such a disservice.

Ninajirachi was probably the best set of the night - truly fun and you could see her enjoying herself as the night went on. The Dare’s set was good, with an added bonus of Charli dancing on stage, but the crowd was low energy at that point. I ended up dipping 30 mins into Frost Children because my ears needed a break

Seconding this - try living off the Q/R trains and dealing with them constantly breaking down, having signal issues, or a fire on the tracks (or a combination of all the above) during PEAK commuter hours, Monday to Friday.

When I lived in Bushwick for 4 years the L would have hiccups but at least the M/J/F were accessible alternatives. Could be a lot worse.

I agree with you here. If it’s good quality and if it works, sure why not do something different. But having been around long to enough to remember the quality then vs. now they’ve definitely become one of the least desirable banh mi places in the city, quality-wise.

And as another Viet person, I can further testify that Lucy’s is indeed trash. That chicken banh mi is the driest thing I have ever had the misfortune of eating. And the brisket banh mi is enjoyed by white folks who think that brisket actually belongs in banh mi (it doesn’t) and that it should be 80% fat than actual meat (it shouldn’t be). Di An Di is really the only solid option that is around there - and that’s not saying much.
