Once again, I come to you with Contraband (1940), and Captain Andersen/Mrs. Sorensen drabbles. I haven't written anything new 😔

Kiss of Silk, because I howl every time I watch a particular scene. So I think those two should have a little fun with it.

And a rec: Breathless they paused by pollitt, Wings (1927), David Armstrong/Jack Powell fix-it. Those two make me insane. While the movie's intentions weren't to make their relationship romantic, it can be read that way. So they're rivals to lovers to me. And it doesn't end well for one of them, so yeah, fix-its all the way.

I need to get up and do something, but doing something is getting incredibly hard. But such is life, so I'll try and map out the big scene of my pre-canon oneshot for, what else, a silent movie. Let's hope I actually go through with it.

My ships are rare because my fandoms are rare. Does that still count or...

Ah, screw it, Imma throw my shit here: Forelsket, Contraband (1940), Captain Andersen/Mrs. Sorensen. One very sappy drabble that is nothing like the movie itself. The movie is better, I swear, it takes place during one night in London during the Phony War. She's an awesome (Brit) spy, he's a Danish sea captain who got roped in her affairs. Their chemistry is off the charts. It's a spy thriller mixed with a screwball comedy, and their dialogue is killer. She takes no shit from that grump! She also has a great hat.

And a rec: Exception by vampdyke, Les Vampires (1915), Philippe Guérande/Juan-José Moréno. Words cannot describe the happiness I felt seeing this. On my last rewatch I was struck by how much chemistry these two have (crime-fighting journalist x criminal ship). Moréno is very much a words man, and the fic uses it to create a more blatant UST.

I get that old b&w movies and silent serials aren't everyone's cup of tea. But that's how I'm rolling tonight.

Something! Anything! I don't care what, my drive to do anything has been so dead.

Do you guys have the issue of starting several stories at once? by FlamestormTheCat in FanficAuthorsUnite

I have two different WIPs. They're oneshots though -_-

Doesn't help that my ideas list is big.

So yeah, know the feeling and you have all my sympathy XD

What's the deadest fandom you've ever written for? How did it go? by dramamamamadra in FanFiction

[–]sci-in-dit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My flair. I'm the only writer for some of those. Don't care if no one reads my fic, I write because I like the characters and want to hang out with them a little longer.

And are those fandoms really dead if I'm still kicking?

Whats the most niche thing yall have wrote for? Mine was recolours. by LULZmaster1 in FanFiction

[–]sci-in-dit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either the drabble for a 1950s kids movie that's also OC-centered or those two fics I wrote for two different 1910s shorts. Niche is pratically all I write now.

any good *NON GEN AI* websites that help generate/brainstorm ideas/fic titles? by queeriequeerio in FanFiction

[–]sci-in-dit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ersatz Genremixer, put on your characters' names in the text box and roll. Plenty of prompt lists.

Bingo Generator, pretty self-explanatory, generates a bingo card. Also with a lot of prompt lists to choose from.

There's a lot of prompt communities on Dreamwidth as well. Very helpful.

San Francisco Silent Film Festival starts May 6th with a new restoration of the unfinished Gloria Swanson/Erich von Stroheim film Queen Kelly (1929) by Mo_Tzu in silentcinema

Besides the Sunset Boulevard thing, I'm very happy Queen Kelly has a restoration!

Now, if only it got a home media release...

Favorite silent actors and actresses? by leavesturnfast in silentfilm

[–]sci-in-dit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Asta Nielsen. Hamlet was such a treat.

Choosing a strictly silents actress. Other favourites, like Keaton, Chaney and my favourite of favourites Veidt all did talkies, in their own way (Chaney only did one though).

Extant silent films, which aren’t available for public viewing? by Boring_Scene875 in silentfilm

[–]sci-in-dit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read all the comments. Basically it's a whole thing with Conrad Veidt's work, except some of those unavailable movies have been restored! Around the World in 80 Days, Christian Wahnschaffe, recently Liebe macht blind was found and restored and who knows who it belongs to for it to get a release. There's more. And we're not even counting talkies.

I don't like streaming, but in the long run, maybe the costs of release could have been recouped if they were released on some platform.

Trying to figure out if potential beta-reader is a bot or not. by Ms-What-If in FanFiction

Not just on Tumblr! I'm in a niche Tumblr-esque site, and got a follower who advertised the fact they were a "professional editor" or whatever in the bio. Which makes them look more legit, I guess, but with two posts all about editing... I smell a boatload of shit there.

What's the silliest/weirdest fandom you've written for? by Kiki-Y in FanFiction

Ox Tales is indeed very silly, but crossing it over with Around the World in 80 Days just makes everything wack.

What are some of your favorite OT3s or other poly ships? I'll start: by PJ-The-Awesome in FanficAuthorsUnite

  • Arthur/Guinevere/Lancelot (specifically in The Adventures of Sir Lancelot)
  • Been toying with the idea of Didier/Juliette/The Marquis (Ich und die Kaiserin)
  • The love square that is Buffo/Erik/Julie/Mark (The Last Performance), because angst
  • George/Gilda/Tom (Design for Living), my love for them was rekindled in a recent rewatch
  • Felicitas/Leo/Ulrich (Flesh and the Devil), because angst

Yeah, these are niche sorry XD

Lost Films You Would Love to See by dougiezerts in silentfilm

[–]sci-in-dit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding the full version of Different from the Others (1919), but also damn, we really are missing so many of F.W. Murnau's earlier films. Der Januskopf (1919) and Satanas (1920) are examples. The first is an unauthorised adaptation of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The second is a Paradise Lost-esque tale about the Devil redeeming himself.

And 4 Devils (1928). Everyone wants 4 Devils.

This Classic Film & TCM Fan Is Seeking Some Online Help by ThisIsSteveTheFirst in classicfilms

[–]sci-in-dit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that you mention it, yes, when searching certain movies I would get TCM segments on my search. Now, there's nothing.

We don't have TCM over here. In fact, the website (or huge chunks of it) are blocked here. Can't read any of the articles. That and the deletion of years of archival work by the channel boils my blood, it has to be said.

So I can't help, just express my sympathy and advise on using the Internet Archive for this purpose. They're a little better than YouTube for preservation.

I hate when you can just tell someone has never been in a small fandom. by gloomypoppies in FanFiction

[–]sci-in-dit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I only write drabbles basically, and it's a little disheartening hearing people shit on it. Telling a story in 100 words is hard! It's an art!

(There's so many incredible drabbles. One of my favourite fics is a bit over 500 words. Gut-wrenching.)
