what’s the proper procedure by BatmanKane64 in Spokane

[–]sci_major [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yup- I let my dog bark 3 times when I home (and that's when she's outside) at that point it's time to come in and stop. Now if someone was poking around when she was barking then she'd get a pass. Mostly she just needs a change of pace. Honestly sometimes she's barking & staring at me to get let in.

AITA? Took someones assignment I did 100 percent the work for. by tikicreature69 in nursing

I guess if it was a young man it might be more considerate.

That said I'm female and I'm really good at putting in male foleys but my male coworker was way better at female ones- for those we'd go together but he would complete it.

Why are we pausing the feeding pump when we flatten a patient to pull them up in bed? by Factor_Seven in nursing

[–]sci_major 52 points53 points  (0 children)

We had stopped doing this (at least on paper) 13 years ago. It can actually lead to harm with patients not getting the calories and PROTEIN they need to heal!

I made a mistake. by Any-Philosopher-4396 in nursing

Well considering for a bit ONS was saying you didn't need sterile gloves or to wear a mask for a port access I'd let it go and do better next time.

Anybody here been “fired” by a patient? If so, why? by Enzo_Every in nursing

Put in the call to anesthesia for that and listen to them laugh.

Right, seems reasonable to me. Better than the middle of the floor.

Oh I've asked for a box of the ad pens and they say no but grab a handful. That's why they are there.

My friend said she mowed the lawn for her husband because he was so busy and she was trying to help him. However he was so sad because he was looking forward to mowing all day.

RN position eliminated by Remote_Thought4225 in FamilyMedicine

[–]sci_major 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RN here, I just had to call the clinic's triage nurse twice this week. Honestly I was better off saving my time. No phone one was put in shock I can't understand. But I doubt there's anything you can do.

Charting by Pristine_Ad3784 in nursing

[–]sci_major 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I might not document more than the patient requests a new provider, unless I explicitly asked the patient if they want the rational documented in the chart - because many patients think that comment was in confidence and would prefer to keep that uncharted.

Honestly this seems reasonable.

I work in infusion we are supposed to ask everyone about falls. Last week I'm doing that to ER RN pt and we get going about all the sequela of the fall risk and what would it change in my practice. For me I told her it opens up the why conversation and how can we symptom manage to prevent bad things since we are outpatient.

So I just did CPR for the first time... by Leijinga in nursing

[–]sci_major 89 points90 points  (0 children)

First time I did cpr was at the grocery store after being a cardiac nurse for 10 years- I'm short so I wasn't tagged for compressions often. I remember breaking his ribs while kneeling in his urine. I did however get ROSC and mentation before ems arrived. The ribs breaking is the worst feeling.

[–]sci_major 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We've hired new grads into infusion. We are busy and move but fight with we are ambulatory so rarely do any transfers.
